ball color vs hook
« on: December 10, 2004, 03:47:18 AM »
I remember, long ago, we discussed this, but I'd like a refresher.

Let's go back to the days when we all used white dots as our main ball.  They came in Blue, Silver, Green, Red (?), and maybe a couple of other colors.  I remember that there was a noticeable (Charlest, it's true) difference in hook between them.  As I recall the Blue hooked the most and the Silver the least. (I distinctly remember going to state one year with a green one that chipped out around the holes - they had a blue in the shop and drilled it out for me and it hooked more by several boards - in fact more than some yellow angles that were in use.) Does anyone know exactly why?

I don't know why, but i know it's true, even today.  There was a discussion about this in the Great Forum (err brunswick), before the super savvy impulse zone came out.  People were talking about the color it should be, and one of the Brunswick people (robert or ric, i forget) came on and started talking about the differences color makes.  some colors react smoother than others, etc.

But as to why, maybe a chemical engineer can help us out?
