Replacement for my Hornet
« on: May 19, 2012, 10:01:49 AM »
I would like to find a ball that is similar to the Hornet.  Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks,

My Hornet was a dry lanes ball but it had a lot of back end. I think the closest current ball is the Storm Tropical Breeze Pearl. The coverstock is a little stronger than the Hornet but the core is a little weaker. With your ball speed, Barry, a strong drilling on the TB could provide enough overall ball strength to be close, but I can't guarantee that. It's been too long since I threw it and I've only tried the Tropical Breeze solid. The Track 300C, drilled strong, is another potential candidate, but it's a couple levels down (up in strength) from the Tropical Breeze.

No current ball is anywhere close to the nature of the Hornet due to its relatively strong core and really weak cover. The idea behind the new Roto-Grip Shout and Scream come close, but I have zero idea how weak or strong they might really be. I suspect they will be too strong.
