Replacement Thoughts?
« on: November 26, 2004, 10:35:52 PM »
My son (17, H.S. Senior, Avg-Higher revs, 16.5mph, med track) is looking for a new ball to add to his arsenal.
Currently:
Purple Monster
Crunch (Thanx again Excaliber)
SonicX Pearl
Orange Flame
White Dot

and the two balls leaving the arsenal
El Nino  RG 2.490   Dif .065
USA LE   RG 2.539   Dif .050
Now both of the above have been very well maintained, and remain in "box" finish. The USA LE is a bit longer and stronger than the El Nino, but both react very close for him (probably due to drillings).
The question is he would like to find something NEW to replace both of those Storm balls with in one ball, sort of like something between the two.
His preferences are open to the following companies:Big B, Track, Storm, MoRich and Roto Grip.

I have sent an e-mail to Storm, but value many of your opinions.
Thanx

(on a side note....he just led his H.S. team in qualifying with a 227 average over 5 sets on 5 patterns, and also bowls the youth travel league....a student of Brad Angelo and Fran Bax)

Thanx Joe, and I am rather proud of all he has accomplished, especially his academics!

Now I hope to surprise him with the "right" ball for the holidays. So I am looking forward to everyone's thoughts.

Well I think Ebonite is overlooked by many. I've had great success using their equipment like the legendary V2 sanded and the clean. Both great balls, very versatile. Hit hard and keep the pins low and pinfall high. Depending on what your willing to spend, these balls are around $160 including drilling. Furthermore, I had my V2 sanded for over 500+ games and it's still performing great maybe it cant handle the heavier conditions but can handle everthing below with ease.

As for the other companies, I've just got my Ultimate Inferno a couple weeks ago. Seemed like a dud and waste of money but had it re-drilled and it gets down the lane better and seems to plow the pins down with an invisible barrier. Plus it looks awesome doing it.

Well, I hoped any of this "crap" helps you in your decision. And again, the V2's are one of the few balls that do it all on any condition for a decent price. Nothing like the Lane#1 or some of the new hi-performance up in the high 200 range. Like I said before, don't overlook Ebonite cause some of their equipment I bet is better than some of the new balls that are very hyped up right now.

I'm just going to toss out a guess that Storm may recommend either the Triple X or the Triple X Extreme. Possibly the Ace, a really tough call depending on what sort of lane condition the balls that are being replaced were used for.

It's kind of hard to read the lanes if you don't know their language...

Well to start, cost is not an issue. The main thing is that the El Nino is on the way out finally, since I had used it for hundreds of games before him, and he finds the El Nino and the USA are very close. So, we are trying to add a new ball that will kind of take the place of those two. The only thing we may add is another "oiler", but he seems to not really need anything other than the purple Monster for that, and it has many games left in it.

Thanks so fare to all, looking forward to any more ideas.

If I were looking to replace an El Nino with a Storm ball I'd be looking at either a XXXtreme or a Deuce.  If he truely wants an in-between ball the Deuce would be his best bet.  However, my advise would be to go with the XXXtreme.  It's the strongest of all the Storm balls available today.  Your son already has a good med-heavy (Purple Monster) and medium (Crunch) oil ball, so I'd go with the strongest Storm replacement available.

If you are looking for mainly a storm, I would have a tendency to lean towards either a depth charge or an x-factor ace from storm.

From other companies, I would have to go with either an ultimate inferno, a solid uranium, or a Rule. Can't go wrong with any of those, haven't seen a person with the UI that hasn't liked it in the position that you are looking for, so I would reccomend that ball.
