Replacement Vibe
« on: November 18, 2011, 11:21:50 AM »
I am getting the grape vibe to replace my blue one and I am putting the same drill on it. My question is how much top weight comes out of the ball after drilling or is tw even important anymore.

Only important with respect to whether you need/want a weight hole and where you place the CG to be able to use a weight hole. In so far as resulting static weights, of negligible importance.

Weight removal depends on the size of your thumb and finger holes and size, if any, of the weight hole.
I use a thumb and finger inserts, drilling 1 1/8" thumb hole and 2 31/32" finger holes. For me this removes about 2 1/4 ounces.

Near as I can tell so far, the Grape Vibe is not a direct replacement for the Blue Vibe as it uses the pearl version of the Blue's solid coverstock formula. Both are excellent but different balls.

thanks charlest I guess just like the cut throat cover as it responds to any changes I make to it better than any other ball I've had.

I do too Had it in the Blue Vibe and the Razor Blade. Great cover. It got kind of flippy in the Grape Vibe, which one reason I did not get one.

I am not much of a flippy fan either, but I was looking at the grape only because I like the cut throught cover. I have a karma and was under the presumtion that the midnight was pretty much the same ball.

Haven't thrown either specific ball but I have some experience with both coverstocks,PLUS the pro reviews (BTM and BJI) both indicate that the Grape Vibe has a stronegr backend. The Karma Pearl isn't a mild ball nor is it flippy. It has a strong backend but not as flippy as the Grape, for avg. revs, avg.ball speed bowler. Both can, of course, be softened by drillings and/or surface adjustments.
