I wasn't knocking the ball, but the lack of execution by Columbia R&D in general. The EPX was just the most glaring example.

Quoted from the atricle...

"You have a higher margin with an open bowler," Hamilton said. "They'll think nothing of spending $30 to play a couple of frames. If you're a league bowler, you'll fuss if you have to pay 12 bucks."

The league bowler has a right to fuss, the league bowler contributes weekly, even if they are absent for a week or so.  In my area, and I'd be willing to bet most areas leagues are guaranteed. An open bowler bowls when they want and only pays when they bowl.

Do I expect to pay a substantially discounted rate, no but if you want me to put in more money to bowl, make it attractive.

I personally bowl 5 leagues and purchased an annual pass for $450.  The pass allows me to bowl free between open and 5PM M-F as long as lanes are available.  I also put in practice on Saturdays and Sundays at the league rate.  My center offers a nice rate $1.75/game vs the $4.50 for non league bowlers.  If I had to pay $4.50/game, I wouldn't practice, I couldn't afford the additional expense.

Yeah, thanks for telling me what I understood by that post. It still wasn't going to save them. They were already lagging behind.

Somehow I suspect the Soaker technology will live on, whether the logo says Dynothane, Ebonite, Hammer, or whatever.  --  JohnP

I didn't like Columbia or Ebonite.  This move doesn't make a difference to me.  I had warranty issues with both about 5 years ago, I told myself then that I would never purchase another Ebonite or Columbia product.  This just makes it easier.
