Need New Ball Ideas
« on: June 15, 2009, 06:59:29 AM »
Well, I'm looking to get a new ball, I havn't bowled in a league for like 8-9 yrs but would like to get back into it. I was averaging in the 180's when I quit at 16 and I currently have an old Blue Hammer and a Storm Trauma Recovery form like 6 yrs ago that never got used. The Storm got drilled wrong and  I just don't want anything to do with it after using it for like 30 games. Today, the guy at my home pro shop said I should look for a 2-piece core ball.

I throw maybe 14-16mph, low revs and I usually play over the 2nd arrow on the right (I guess thats stroker/down and in). Conditions would generally be med-heavy to medium.

Suggestions would be helpful.

Look for a mid price pearl or solid. Example: Storm Fast, Visionary Ogre etc. around $100. Good place to start. See what brand is popular in your area, most brands make a ball like this. Good luck!

Wow this guy took an 8-9 year layoff from the game and you recommend all high-end bowling balls too him.  Yeah that'll really help.  What about maybe something that would actually HELP him get back into the game???

So what is your thought on a ball then?

Depending on what you want to spend there are a lot of options outthere. I would not argue with what was already said.

any ball mentioned should be ok.
if you're concerned about over-
reaction just ask the driller for
a more controlled back end and
you should be ok. i would not
recommend the link as a all-around
ball though especially on the conditions
you describe.

Get a hy-road.  Can't go wrong with it.  Very versatile ball that takes surface adjustments easily.

I would think the Blue Hammer would still be of use.

Anything in the AMF mid+ line, or The Code would be a good "all around" ball, but you're likely to find a suitable ball from any manufacturer.

Your pro shop guy should be able to watch you bowl and make a recommendation.  He'll be familiar with your style and the conditions.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I'll take these and see what the pro shop guy thinks is best.

I also think I'm going to include the Columbia Freeze in there as well. Since it uses the Messenger core and knew a lot of people were using it right about the time I got out.
