End of and era.
« on: March 09, 2004, 07:39:06 PM »
An era ending.

The pro that runs the proshop were I help out is going to retire on April 1. He has been a fixture on the Wichita bowling scene since he retired from the PBA tour in 1977. In a time where few proshops have lasted more than 5 years around here he ran his proshop out of one house in town for 26 years until it closed last year.  This last year he moved to another house in town.

His knowledge, honesty, and techniques are well known in this area. If you are having a grip problem he is the most recommended proshop in the area. He has regular customers from a 120 mile radius of the city.

I’ve had the honor of knowing him for 24 of those years and have worked part time in the shop the last 16. The knowledge and insights of bowling, drilling, and layouts are priceless.

A new pro will be taking over on the 1st… the era will end.

I know how you feel. Just last year one of our associations charter members retired from bowling. He has been bowling in the same house since it was built in the mid 50's.

When he retired, he gave me one of his old balls. Turns out it is a brunswick starline he bought new in 1946. I am going to put it up and keep it for a conversation peace.

We will miss him and it just won't seem like league night without him around.

Is Tommy moving to a warmer climate?  How does he think he's going to fish in the winter around here.  His old bones would freeze up.

PB, what are you going to do with all your free time?

I wondered when this day would finally come.  I'll have to stop by to wish him well on his retirement.  There will certainly be a lot of bowlers looking for a new driller.
