I've heard you can only resurface a ball once maybe twice. Is this true, just how thick are the covers.How many games in the life of a ball??.

A ball can be resurfaced many times, general rule of thumb is as long as the ball has visable engraving on the ball it is still legal. Unless the ball is severly marked or scarred a resurfacing in only going to take a couple thousands off a ball each resurfacing.

I resurfaced one ball 6 times and have seen others that were resurfaced that many times. That seems to be the maximum you can do and still get good results.

It depends a little on how much you take off during the resurface. If you have a really deep track (400 to 600 games) it takes more off than doing a resurface after say 150 games.

Most balls are two piece and the shell is over an inch deep at a minimum so running out of shell is not a problem.

Beware of resurfacing vis-a-balls. The shells over the images are thin and you can wipe out the image.

While Iâ€™m aware that a ball cannot have over a 27-inch maximum circumference Iâ€™m not aware of any rule for a minimum. And resurfacing will not make the ball larger.

The only issue I see is for the circumference to be constant and that the serial number on the ball still be visible.

There is a minimum rule also. Check the rulebook, i don't have one handy.

The ABC made a "new rule" about 2 years ago, saying that the serial number of a ball must be visible to be used in ABC, now USBC, competiton. I'd guess if threw an honor score with those balls and the secretary had to get the serial number and couldn't, then you wouldn't get the award.

I'd also guess that their circumference might be quite a bit less, relatively speaking than they used to be. They might fit between a 3/10, 2/7, 4/5 or 5/6 ...

It says the ball must have the serial number for identification purposes and it may be re-engraved. I guess it just must be there.

There does seem to be a minimum and maximum circumference!
Min: 26.704", Max: 27.002"
Min Diameter: 8.500", Max diameter: 8.595"
