oil
« on: February 21, 2010, 02:14:21 PM »
Had a 63 year year old 195 average bowler tell me that he has never had to wipe oil off his ball in 33 years until the other day. In his conclusion it was too much. He shot 590.  Where do people come up with this sh_t?

Wow !  Sure would be an interesting experiment to see how much oil actually bleeds out if he puts it in a Revivor oven .

Not much, I'd guess. If the ball is 33 years old(?), I suppose it is a rubber ball which hardly sucks up any oil.

For many people, if they don't see it with their own eyes, it never happened. Unfortunately age has nothing to do with that mental block.

I'd look at this way since I am 61.  If he is using the same ball for 33 years diz is correct it would be rubber or poly.  Take your way back machine to 1977 and those type of lane conditions of low volume on lacquer/wood.  Non-flaring equipment one measured their skill level by the small track they put on a ball.  Since, it was low volume not much oil would show up on a ball.  Many were still using conventional grip then...maybe your friend still is?  Conventional grip, low revs not much oil allowed bowlers to play the track easier.  Fast forward to 2010.....OMG you can see where the old duffer is coming from and he still shot 590 probably by adjustments.  Possibly the THS has a dry-dry area out to the right or left?

Old minds are hard to change at times.

Its not the same ball he has had for 33 years , he claims he has never had to wipe oil off any ball for 33 years.

Ha, ha! I don't bring a towel to the lanes either....so neither have I, technically. Too funny!

Nobody HAS to wipe the oil off of the ball.  If he chooses not to and is satisfied with the cleanlinss and reaction, so be it.  --  JohnP
