Revivor question
« on: September 01, 2008, 01:18:22 AM »
I know most people sand their balls down to 320 or 500 when they soak their balls in dishwater, but is this needed when using the Revivor Oven?  A friend picked one up and I want to do a few balls, but wanted to see if I need to do this first to the balls I want done.

Even Mo Pinel recommends this before using the Revivor or the Rejuvenator.

Some people here say they have gotten good results when leaving the ball as it is.

Personally I'd trust Mo Pinel words on a matter like this. He's not ALWAYS right, but he's wrong such a small percentage of the time, I wouldn't take a chance on not doing it. I do it when I give balls a soapy bath to extract the oil. It's not like it's a major effort, after all.

In my opinion 500 would be plenty dull. It works either way, but by going down to 500 you will definitely open up the pores better.

I know of someone who does not change the surface at all before putting it in the Revivor.  He does not have a problem restoring ball reaction and extracting the oil.  I know that in the past it was recommended to sand the ball down to help open the pores.  But, don't think it is such a big deal now.

Regardless of the method used to get oil out of the ball, my fear of sanding a ball down prior to de-oiling it is getting the ball's coverstock back to exactly like it was if I was entirely happy with it's coverstock to begin with. Therefore I don't mess with the cover unless it is tracked up and needs refurbished or if I wasn't happy with it to begin with.

Do you think they desgined it? Probably not.
They're just selling and marketing it.

Are you serious??

Don't you think the people who make a product would know more about it than someone who has probably never used it??

Sorry but for one I do not care for Mo Pinels advise, I prefer a wet moist heat when and if I decide to extract oil from a ball. Dry heat and resins do not mix. This is my opinion only, and I respect any other opinions on this matter.

Mike L,

I work for Innovative Bowling Products in Jacobus, PA. I am actually the person who builds the Revivor Ovens.

Using Abralon pads to help cut open the ball prior to placing in the oven is used by many pro shops. I prefer to deep clean the ball on a spinner by applying pressure with a clean towel and a good ball cleaner prior to placing in the oven.

Brunswick and MoRich do endorse the Innovative Oil Extraction Unit as both safe and effective.....

Thanks,
Cory

I agree on the Revivor being an essential pro shop tool. Easy to use, safe, effective and huge profit potential. More and more pro shop are realizing that and keeping me very, very busy......

I have never actually seen or used a Rejuvenator, so I can't answer that one.
