Where do the dots go?
« on: October 12, 2004, 02:24:11 AM »
I'm in a posting frenzy today!!  Something about my home center's been buggin' me -- I've noticed it for a while, but was too embarrassed to post....Aren't there supposed to be dots every 5 boards on the approach?  I'm not sure about the rest of the approach, but the dot on what is supposed to be the 20 board is actually on 21 and the dot for 25 is on 26.  For the last year, I've been unknowingly putting my feet in the wrong spot and I think that's why I'm so bad at this sport!!

I have gone to different houses and seen dots on different boards and number of dots is different. I have used a simple method of counting from the center dot from now on.

It cost me in a tournament big time. the downside to using a plastic ball is the target becomes a pivot point and if you off by 2 boards and miss by 2 boards you done!

so that way when I want to go up 10 and my set down number is 6 right of my start,

I have to finsh at 16. 20 - 16 = four boards right of center.

It was a fine time for me - I was learning to fence, fight, anything anyone would teach me

Also a bowling lane can have from 39 to 41 boards...The approach can have 5 to 7 dots....These are just guides or sights to use....You adjust to the reaction of Your ball not to the Dots

This excuse take the cake.  Who cares how the approach is marked.  Its watching ones ball and where it tracks and how it reacts that tell us which way we need to adjust.
Now Bones, do you really think I'd use the dots as an excuse when we all know it's the ball?  To coin a golf phrase -- I have a LOFT problem when it comes to bowling...(LOFT = Lack of F'in Talent for those who are unfamiliar )

Sorry about the blast regarding marks, but as a bowler who never paid any attention to them, I am always amused at those who take forever to make certain they are standing on a certain board when they end up at the line differently each toss.

No problemo!!  Right now I'm finding that it doesn't really matter where I start or what ball I use -- when I'm missing my intended target by 5-10 boards, I deserve the scores I get!!
