righty 7 pin
« on: December 22, 2010, 04:45:21 PM »
Ok I'm a right handed bowler and leave the 7 pin more than the 10 pin. It's not a perception thing because teammates and even people on others teams have said something. Anyone else have this happening?

As a Left Hander I leave on average more 6 n 10 pins more then 7's.. I think cause of coming in a tad high into the pocket, could be wrong..

jkiser01 is the same way....leaves more 7 pins as a righty than anyone I know.

It's not like the pins don't migrate there....just nothing seems to take it out.

it's a entry angle issue. Either the 5 is going in front of or behind the 7.

Not sure what weight ball you are using, but for me when I dropped down to 14 lbs, I left a ton of 7 pins.  I went back up to 15lbs and definitely noticed a difference.

In my amateur opinion, I believe this could be caused by an angle of entry into the pocket that is too steep. When this occurs, the motion of the pins on the left side of the rack (for a righty) will be toward the left sidewall. In order to carry the 7 pin, you probably need to decrease the angle of entry so as to push the pins toward the back of the deck a bit more, instead of to the left side. Keep in mind we could be talking about a very small adjustment in angle to produce different results. Usually this will "look" like less swing and a more direct path to the pocket.

Most bowlers (not everyone) likes to hit high flush because its a very impressive, explosive hit.

High flush also cuts the pocket in half, reducing your mistake room and amplifying differences in speed, small accuracy issues, and other small mistakes that when lined up properly would still strike, but with the pocket cut in half, these small mistakes result in solid 9s, 7s, 4/9 splits and sometings garbage going through the nose.

Line up to hit the pocket and give yourself some room to play with.

Usually, my 7 pin leaves are a result of leaking the ball out too wide when there's a lot of friction. The ball usually makes it back to the pocket but with insufficient power for the travelling pins to take the 7 pin out.
