Ring Finger Pain
« on: November 30, 2005, 03:16:20 PM »
Over the weekend i've developed a slight discomfort in the ring finger when bowling. It isn't exactly painful, i just feel that something is wrong. The discomfort is mainly between the middle joint and the joint nearest to the palm.. in other words the segment furthest away from the fingernail..

curling up the ring finger hurts a little bit.

i'm afraid to continue bowling now.. any tips on how to. lessen the pain or heal it or something.

is this a serious problem? thx

This may be a minor strain that will heal itself or it may be the beginning of a major problem.  Go to a knowledgeable fitter/driller and have him analyze your finger flexibility.  You may need to change the amount of F/R pitch on that finger toward more reverse (or less forward).  Also, I feel that finger grips increase the stress put on the fingers.  --  JohnP

I'd subscribe this, too. Take some time to step back from palying and see if it everything gets back to normal. If not, check out a doctor.
And, have your drilling/span and inserts checked. Maybe it is because of a new ball, or you need a grip adjustment. A small change can have big influence on the human body, and do not take it too easy. A proper ball fit is a must for proper performance - and health!

i cannot stress this enough: do not play till you are 100% better. i strained my ring finger but kept on playing for days afterward. i went to the doctor and he said that from pushing it to much i had severely bruised or sprained the tendon, which could take a very long time to heal.(going on two months here.)  so i started bowling with only thumb and middle finger, and now i have switched to sarge easter. not for the forward roll or reducing rev, just so i have a more comfortable place to put my finger.

main point: DO NOT bowl till you are healed.

Turkey Sub is correct, I injured my ring finger tendon 2 years ago, even now it's still not 100%.

I believe bad release as the cause of my injury.

Also, while you are resting, it gives you a good chance to get any corrections taken care of on pitches or spans.
