Using Tape
« on: December 25, 2005, 03:44:08 AM »
I currently use white tape but was wondering where the tape should be place in the thumbhole. should he tape be place right to the top of the thumbhole or be place like 1/4 inch from the top.

Thanks
Brian

I believe its all in feel. What feels better to you. IF i happen to use tape I usually put 1 peice on where the pad of my thumb would be.

Yeah, its a feel thing. Try not to use too much tape in the front as it changes your span. I personally like to use 3/4 white tape, one in front and one in back. Black tape is a pain in the bum and 1 inch tape takes up too much space and it drags on the side of my thumb.

I think everyone missed your question.

When I was using bowler's tape, I ran it right up to the top of the hole. Now I am using Magic Carpet instead, and I followed Ron C's instructions which suggest leaving it 1/4" from the top of the hole.

I like to use white tape in the front of the thumb w/ 1 piece of the new textured Vise tape. Its the real coarse black style. Really like the way I can relax my hand in the ball for a clean release

When I was using tape, I would leave a small gap. Not really 1/4", but closer to 1/8". It was a 'feel ' thing. The tape would never be in the way, but close enough to the top to fill the gap for the thumb.

IMO, it is more a personal feel thing, what ever makes you feel right and works for you, is best for you.
