Roll-Off question
« on: April 08, 2004, 08:52:55 AM »
There is a very strong possibility that at the end of position rounds we will have a three way tie for first.  Our league rules state this: In the event of a tie for roll-off, total pins will be used.  In the event of a tie for final roll-off, a one game roll-off will be bowled to determine any trophy positions.  Total pins will be used for any non-trophy position.

Okay, so let's say at the end of the position round which is supposed to give us 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places, we have three teams tied. Would only the two total pin leaders bowl a one-game roll-off?  This makes sense to me since pins are not being used to determine the trophy position, just who is in the final roll-off for the trophy spot.

I want this clear before it happens since my team will be pin leader no matter what happens (we are up 350-370 pins).  The other two teams have lead in points up to now (dang handicaps) and will do whatever they can to keep us out of the running. We won last year coming from behind and they don't want it to happen again -- especially since we took it away from the same two teams.

Hey Serice,

I went thru this last year.  Per ABC rules, (page 38, regarding ties)

"Leagues may not adopt rules to allow total pins for the season or team average to break position standing ties at the conclusion of the season, or at the end of any segment of a split season schedule".

You may want to bring this up before it's too late...

I understand which is why we have the one game roll-off.  But what if three teams all finish with the same point total at the end of the position round?  What kind of roll-off situation would be used?

That link was great -- so each of the three teams would bowl using three lanes over two pair. Teams draw lane placement randomly. Since we state that there will be only a one-game roll-off, then 1st, 2nd, 3rd would be determined by the finish of this one game. If a tie still exists, a one frame roll-off is used.

Can I assume that the lanes selected should not be any of the pairs used during the first set?
