Rosin Bags
« on: June 17, 2004, 07:03:10 PM »
How many if you use rosin bags?

I usually do.  But the problem is that they usually start to rip a hole and the little beads start to fall out.  Then of course it falls on the floor and makes everything too slippery.

I sweat a lot and bowling centers don't care to maintain hand dryers.

What aboutchu?

I prefer the "hand conditioner" , the rosin is too sticky for me,..I put mine in a folded towel to keep it from getting all over the place..jim

I usually use a rosin bag when I start practice, just to make sure I have a good grip on the ball when I start.  I always lose the ball when I first start warming up if I don't use some rosin.  After that, I just use a dry ball, and I seem to have good luck holding on to the ball.  My hands (among other parts of the body) also sweat a lot while bowling, so I always have a dry ball around.

I use one - well many.  I've left probably several hundred of the things in various bowling centers.  When I bowl one of three things is always in my hand; the ball, a beer, or the rosin bag.

Wonder what BK will do when he gets old enough to drink beers while bowling?  As it is now, he has three things in his hand.

I just use this huge dry bag my wife made me.  People laugh cause they say it looks like a pillow, but it works well.

What would be nice is something like soapstone that would have those qualities. Just scrape the amount you need and go.

Rarely use rosin, but constantly use a puff ball.

I've strayed away from using a rosin bag as of late.  I used to get those bags that would always rip open and the little round rosin things would come flying out.  I tried using one of those that was shaped like a ball, but they dried out my hand too much or not enough at times so I never really had a consistent grip on the ball, resulting in either a drop or sticking.  Now, I just have a giant rosin bag that's basically like a hand conditioner seeing as it's just a powder.  Use a little when my hand feels a bit sweaty and I haven't had any problems with my release since, unless I messed up myself.

Years ago I remember seeing a product that was a green powder that came in a plastic bag.  You had to add water to it and it formed something like a slick slimey playdo and it was designed to keep your hand dry.  I havent seen that around lately, anyone ever try it besides me?

I never use rosin. If you have to use rosin, then the holes in your ball are too large to begin with. Also, I never use powder. I use soap stone that I've ground to powder and carry in a bottle in my bag, in place of shoe slide, baby powder, lip ice, ets. Takes only a timy bit, lasts longer, and the ball stays the same from frame to frame and not slick one frame, less the next, more the next, etc. I can grind a bottle of soap stone powder about the size of a 100 count asprin bottle in about 10 minutes using a wood raft that isn't too coarse and this bottle of powder seems to last forever. A file for metal is too fine for this.
