What kind of hand position should you use to get side rotation ? Like for instance doug kent ??? I notice some people use a droped ring finger ? What should you change in your approach also to do this ???

Why would you ever change your approach to get more side rotation? For me, the best way to get more side rotation is to tuck in your pinky, as shown in some of BowlerStore's videos

If you want to throw it like Doug Kent you will need to alter your approach. You will need to get your arm swing to have later timing and to do this you will need your slide a little ahead of your follow through.
Keep your ball medium high with your pinky tucked so you can get out of the ball quickly and in your staring position you will want your hand slightly cupped with your index finger pointing straight at the lane. Hold the ball with your left hand on the side of the ball.
On the release your going to come around the ball as quick as possible. Follow through to your target with all your hand open and completely flat. Think of a karate chop as your releasing it and after you throw it towards your target have your hand and arm come straight back down at your side and hold the pose.
Watch as many videos of Kent as possible. Here's a good one with a good shot after the :30 second mark:
