What is stripping was illegal?
« on: November 08, 2008, 09:46:32 AM »
Never clean the backends of the lanes and just keep re-oiling them.

Today for the second weekend in a row I went to a house that hasn't cleaned the backends in many moons it seems. Also, they were mildly oiled in the morning. The ball would fly off the spot, which was at the arrows and keep going for 40 feet then roll out completely. Because of the dry heads and the ridiculous amount of carry down it seemed there was no where to play. If the ball didn't go high flush you were not going to carry. If you mis-hit at the bottom it died and rolled out. You hit too much on it and pull it a tad you will be lucky to get a brooklyn.

This condition was a challenge to say the least. What would happen if lanes were never stripped?

The proprietor's heaven: zero payment for chemicals.
or flat oil the first 15 feet of the lane once a week.

Eventually, you would have pins sliding all over the pin-deck from all the carrydown, creating an out-of-range/re-spot nightmare....

There's no requirement to strip the backends at all.  If the center chooses to do so, its only to please the bowlers.

I bowled at a place for a couple of summers that stripped biweekly, by hand. I must say it was interesting aspect of going their to bowl wondering how the backends would be if the move would smooth or flying.
