So, I recently moved up from a 14# Storm Street Rod, to a 15# Brunswick Mastermind, and the first night I shot a 626, and it was great, but just one problem: I was suddenly feeling as if I had to give the ball a death squeeze just to hold onto it in the backswing.
Now, when I had the ball drilled, I had the driller match it up to my previous ball, except he said my span needed to be 1/8" longer, which I allowed him to do. Now, I have always had issues with getting blisters on my thumb, which I know comes from "knuckling" the thumb hole. I theorize that with my longer span, I'm suddenly realizing how much I had to grip it to hold it.
The main problem falls in my backswing. I'll snug up the hole nice and tight with bowler's tape, and it feels great, but on the backswing if I don't squeeze very tightly it feels as if it's going to fall off my thumb, in fact it has once or twice. Now, the current pitch is 1/8th left and 1/2 reverse.
I'm currently having the pitch changed on two different balls to see which feels better
The pitches are 1/8" inch left 1/4" reverse, on one, and 1/8th right and 0 on the other.
Is there any opinions from you all on what else might help? What I'm looking for is a ball fit that holds onto me, essentially. I want it to feel nice and secure on my backswing, while releasing smoothly on the delivery.
