seeing who is who and what is what
« on: November 14, 2004, 04:38:49 PM »
Hey folks,
I have just found this site and was wondering how many of you folks have kids that bowl and to what extent.  How many of you are pro or semi pro?
I am not a pro by any means but have shot several tourny's in the past.  I am not a great bowler at all, was carrying a 218 average when I had to quit years ago.  That was combined from 7 leagues.
My kids all bowl.  My youngest is 13 and he is carrying a 120 or so average.  My oldest boy is the best I have to brag about.  He has 20 300's now, two in the past month, and almost that many 800's.  He was offered the chance of a lifetime to try and go Pro about 3-4 years ago, but decided not to take the offer.  I could have kicked his rear for that.  I don't poush any of my kids in any sport, but man what an oppurtunity he had.  D. Weber himself made the offer.  Full sponsorship anywhere he wanted to bowl.  He is only 27 now and bowls only one night a week and a few tourny's here and there.
So if ya don't mind bragging as i have done on my kids, let us know how yours are doing.

HI "trying it again" welcome to the board.
My son sucks at bowling and has little interest in it at all. Since I am a nationally known bowling coach and part owner of a bowling center thats just my luck.
It sounds like you are part of a real bowling family and that is great. I grew up in a bowling family and had a great time.

I have a bowling wesite you may enjoy reading over and a live chat room that I am in most every night from 11 PM to midnight eastern time. Stop in and say HI.

If you havnt realized already, there are actually a lot of younger people here, me being included. Im 16 (obviously have no kids), average around 200 in tournies, and do as many as possible. (Pretty much every weekend) Welcome to the site, good to have one more serious person on the site, and one more person in the sport.

trying,
I bowl in several leagues and participate in tournaments on a regular basis, mostly handicap.  I'm not good enough to compete with the scratch guys on a day-to-day basis, not to mention the PBA guys.

My son, who is the younger of my two children, is the only other bowler in the family.  He bowled with me in adult/child leagues since he was twelve.  He is in his first year of college, and just turned eighteen at the end of September.  Even though he only bowled every other week, he managed to get his average up to just over 190.  He is now a reserve member of his college bowling team, but he doesn't really have time to participate.  We were asked if he wanted to join with no particular obligation, other than the fee, so he did.  For his fee, he gets a locker and free practice whenever lanes are available.

I am very active in the local ABT branch, and when he was younger, my son accompanied me to many of the tournaments.  He has been eagerly, but patiently waiting to turn eighteen, so he could join and bowl ABT (ABT rules require a bowler to be eighteen or older to join).  His time has finally come (see above), and he will be joining ABT and bowling his first event when he comes home at Thanksgiving.  We are both looking forward to it.

I'm just a hack who loves to bowl, but my two boys are pretty good bowlers.  Nick (15) is currently averaging 214 on the wall of China, and Tyler (10) is averaging 161 in one house and 140 something in the other.  Nick was the anchor on his high school team last season.  We'll see what happens at tryouts this year.

thanks for all the replys folks.  Sorry it has taken so long to get back on here. Very interesting to see so many younguns into the sport.
My son does have a good job and I believe he seen exactly what was said here about the tour being so difficult.  He made the decision on his own and I am proud of him for it.  I would have been proud to see him try it, but it really makes no diference to me.  Thanks for your candor on the matter.

My entire family is very sports minded. My two daughters are soccer players, the oldest winning all conference and all regional two years in a row.  My youngest is a collage freshman keeper this year and had the lowest gaa in the nation this year. The son we lost two years ago was a base ball player/ bowler and was above average in both.  My youngest is a ball player to, and a bowler. I myself played baseball for years, and I have bowled longer than I can remember.  Or longer than I care to anyway. We all camp as a family every chance we get and enjoy the outdoor sports.  Hunting, fishing, and so on.
please keep the respnses coming, I enjoy reading about others.

My son is 18, was offered bowling scholarships from two major colleges... (only $10K per year) but decided to "skip" college altogether this year and is living with his g/f and parents while she finishes high school. He is a talented bowler and still remains on the junior level.

My daughter (just turned 16) is not bowling junior leagues and has not for the past two years, but is on the High School team. She is out averaging all the girls in the state with over a 200 average and is only 4th of all the boys. She has not wanted to devote much time to it in the past but is now seeing that her maturity is a big advantage and is starting to get serious.

My kids are doing well... I on the other hand am not. But then you did not ask that.
