ball that works well but you don't like
« on: October 27, 2009, 05:42:19 AM »
I want to know if I'm the only one who has a ball that they hate to throw for whatever reason, but you can score really well with it.

I have a ball that I have 4 honor scores with but I hate to throw it.  Do you have one like this?  if so what ball is it?  My ball is the Elite Black Label blemish

Hate it because its plugged and it's ugly, but boy does that puppy roll good.

My Sauce.  My former boss drilled it up for me and the thumb is huge and the span is too long.  I've thrown 3-300's with it including one at state tournament.  (Not much of a FIGJAM, everyone and their brother threw an honor score there)

I've had several balls, I didnt really like, probably cuz they were too condition specific, but if i did find a lane condition for them, it was lights out!

One was a Blue Thunder, that ended up being drilled axis leverage for a smooth archin hook, and first night i used the ball ended up shooting like 730 something clean... after that i couldnt do anything with said ball, was too over under for me.

Had a ole Lighting Storm, drilled by same guy as the blue thunder, and the ball was the same thing, you could have two lanes oiled the same and on lane 1, you'd be playing 25-10, and the other you'd be going up the 10board lol.   Shot some good scores with the ball, but the ball just wasnt consistent.

I didn't know how to answer this until I saw this.  With this now in mind, everything I've had plugged and redrilled I hated to throw regardless of how well it rolled.

Could be a number of different reasons. Drill is off just a bit. As someone said due to plug job.

I really always hated my Hammer No Mercy and bought it right when it came out. Was between that ball or a Black Widow...now wondering if I got the right ball at the time. I have scored well with the No Mercy but I have to rip it to make it react well, consistently and hit hard up on it to make it carry but when I do that I can score really well with it. I hate the reaction though. I like to look around 40 feet down the lane at a box area/breakpoint and the reaction is tough to judge. Mainly because it hooks so early on the heads and then makes another arching reaction in the pine area. If I relax my shot it skids though the heads and has a reaction of a mid 80's urethane ball on today's lane surfaces with today's oil. Also, may have chosen the wrong drill. I got the #2 drill which is a arch drill and wish I had either gotten the strongest drilling or the weak layout with the fingers below the pin which most resin balls I do and may have something to do with it.

Condition specific for me---Vapor Zone.

Looks wise, I hate the bubble gum stuck to the side of the ball visual of the Virtual Gravity.
