Relpacement for the Columbia Vow
« on: January 23, 2019, 09:35:21 PM »
Need help. I bowl on THS. The volume dries up very quickly. I have been using the Columbia Vow. I need a replacement for this ball. Something that goes long, but still has sufficient back end. A smooth hook and not a sharp break. Any thoughts???

I used to have the Vow, good piece
The new Columbia Chaos has similar numbers, but the Chaos coverstock is a bit stronger, its getting great reviews from the staff players, Billy O'Neill used it to win on TV a few weeks ago.

The Ebonite GB2 is also fairly close as well, with a little less core strength.
Its a very good piece that alot of people have, they have been making it for 3+ years because its so popular

Plus the GB2 is $115

Whatever you end up with, no matter the brand or ball, it will not be exactly the same
The coverstocks get stronger and stronger.
Most likely you will need to tweak the coverstock by adding or lessening the surface of the ball until you get it where you like it
Cant go wrong with either piece IMO
I have had 3 different GB2 and have another 1 undrilled if that tells you anything about how much I like it
Its so predictable and arcing, you just know where its going to go as soon as you release it

The Vow was a great piece, but it is tough trying to replicate it. Out of the Columbia line, my vote goes to the Chaos as well.

As someone that has had a Vow since they came out (on my second one now due to ball machine).  The Vow for me is pretty weak, one of the weakest in my bag.  I use it a lot on my 2nd shift burn league for the last game.  To me the Chaos is NOT a good replacement for the Vow.  The numbers might similar but the cover on the Chaos is STRONG!!  I don't feel there is a ball similar enough in the Columbia line.  I would recommend a  Track Kinetic Amethyst, Hammer Flawless, or maybe a Spoiler Alert if you want to stay with Columbia.

The Vow had Bend-It Pearl, I'm in the same boat as I don't see the Chaos comparison being close.

I believe the Reflex Pearl on the Spoiler alert and Saber Pearl is the new/improved formulation of Bend-It Pearl.

I'd lean towards the Spoiler Alert, Flawless, or Ultra Heat

Bend it Pearl was also on the Sideswipe, that I also liked but the Sideswipe is earlier than the Vow.  Ultra Heat may be a good option.  I threw it last year at Demo Days and it was a good piece but too much overlap with other stuff I have.
