Same drilling on different balls
« on: December 29, 2010, 03:23:36 AM »
Was just wondering if anyone uses the same drilling on all the balls they have? Or would that even be a good idea?

I have a standard drilling that I put on most bowling balls. Unless I  have a specific reaction I am looking for. It is useful to have a go to drilling to help assess bowling balls. It is also useful to have that drilling because it gives you a general shape to expect out of your shot.

I'll do the same drilling if I have a solid/pearl of the same ball.

I have a cell/cell pearl drilled the same way and let the cover be the difference in the reaction

It depends on the core shape for me, but right now everything I have is symmetrical so I like to go pin down.

Thanks for the replies. I have a Plague that I am having some success with and I have a Trap that I am going to get drilled and thought I would try the same drilling on it. I'll have to ask the pro shop what the drilling is on the ball. But thanks again for the info and hope everyone has a Happy New Year.

I have been using the same drilling on all my balls since June.  A 85°x2 1/2"x45° layout that has totally worked wonders for me this year.  I have that layout on my Villain Pearl, Heist Pearl, Shredder, Hype Pearl, and had it on my Slingshot.  The Slingshot was the test ball, and enjoyed throwing that ball.  I get a real consistent roll every time, no more of that over/under or snappy reaction.

I generally do the same thing too. For instance I have two prodigys. When I drilled both of them I went with the same exact pin length. Both balls have the same layout. Same amount of finger and top weight. Only difference? One is at box (4000 abralon), the other is 1500 polished.

I recently had the same drilling on three balls....Lane 1 Dynamo, Lane 1 Red Death, and Lane 1 Blue Death. The Red Death and Blue Death worked great for me, but the Dynamo didn't perform at all. After several surface changes not working either, I plugged the ball and redrilled to a different layout which made the ball even worse than it already was, so I accepted the fact that the Dynamo wasn't a good ball for me.

I've done it a few times. Usually I have four drill patterns that I prefer to use most.

When I have a few different style bowling balls all drilled the same or very close it makes it easier to transition from one ball to the next when the lanes start to change. There is less of a guessing game on how the ball will react.
