i am in the process of moving down to 15lb. i am still using a 16lb mutant cell that is working so well i am leary of changing. but for health reasons i will need to. if i do get another mutant, and drill it exactly the same, will it react the same as the 16lb ball? i dont believe it will. if it wont, what do i need to do to get the same reaction from a 15lb ball?

How many games do you have on the MC? What I would do, is make sure you request the same specs on the ball (pin placement and top weight). As long as they are pretty much the same, with the same layout, you should be able to get the reactions pretty close, if not identical. Reason I ask about the games, is that if you have 200 games on your current and get a new one, chances are the 16 may be a touch weaker due to oil absorption and/or other factors. If you only have 50 or less, then getting the same reaction wont be as tough.

i have had the ball for almost a year, so a guess there are probally between 150 - 200 games on it.

I have to disagree with you on this one.

3 1/2 years ago I tried to go back to 16s from 15s, and 1 1/2 years ago I went back to 15s. In both situations, I had favorite balls with beautiful ball reactions that I wanted to retain. Since virtually every ball, when going between 15 lb balls and 16 balls has different RGs and different RG differentials, I found it almost always necessary to move the pin to the right position from one weight to the next to make up for those 2 essential differences.

Keep in mind that some balls have small differences and some have larger difference in both measurements. They can and do make a difference. Ball speed comes into play here. Higher ball speeds will find smaller differences in reaction, while lower ball speeds will find larger differences.

Check the numbers on the ball. RG and Diff will vary slightly. 16# will generally be smoother off the spot.

I agree with you there 100%. I meant to put that there may be a little tweak in layout or cover to get the desired result and I simply overlooked that. Appreciate the added info.
