Think I've figured out why some people are upset at Ebo...

...for the price increase: They can't make fun of Lane #1's pricing model anymore. Heh heh.

I think it''s their lack of brand quality. Outside of the Mission, what are people raving about when it comes to Ebonite? Not really anything. When you look at their current offerings they don''t really have a depth of arsenal in which a bowler could only use their brand to compete effectively. Nevermind that a lot of their equipment just seems to overlap.

Ebonite International on the other hand has done a fantastic job with their other brands: Columbia, Hammer, and Track. I think in their goal to prop up the new brands, the flagship brand has been more than a little bit neglected. Not that I mind, because I wish they''d do more to promote Track equipment.

Could it be that this is just not happening in your area?

Ebonite seems to be doing just fine in many areas of NJ. From Hardball up to Mission and all the old and new balls in between, people of all averages seem to be using them.

Maybe your pro shop(s) are not recommending them?

FYI I don''t use any Ebo balls at all and the ones a few close friends recommended strongly, I still find hard to make proper use of ... so far. So I''m the last one to recommend Ebonite.

It all varies by area. Will agree that in my area down south EBO and Columbia are slow sellers. The Freeze is the exception. As far as the Mission and 2.0 I have seen less then 6 total.(combined) Including their regional players.

Sir usually the deep south is widely known as bowling on the desert...

So that might be a reason you won't see many Mission's etc...

Plus isn't the deep south were all the old people have moved...Another reason, no ball speed...so the Freeze makes sense...

And didn't people from the deep south east { Florida } give us Bush... oops

here in toronto, with the exception of mission and 2.0, storm and brunswick is what i see most often, followed by hammer.

now if pro shops can sell an ebonite hp ball at 180 drilled, then i say that ebonite did a good job, but thats not the reality, a new hp ebo ball is over 250, which is pretty close to 250 usd. no ebo for me thx bye

actually i throw pretty old equipment, i believe is not the ball but the bowler

When a house bowler misses the mark, misses the break point and strike, for many ppl its called a wallshot. When a pro does that its call adjustment

When a house bowler gets his finger stuck in the ball and fall on the lanes, for many ppl its called lame bowler. When a pro does that its called the Machuga flop! ha i like this one.

The price guideline they released did NOT raise the price of their products. Just makes on line shops pay what shops pay. If Ebo in your area increased thats all the shops doing. Well sell more Ebo since they did what they did. They are backing pro shops. Ebo has a great line up I loved the hard ball. They just dont have a true oiler.

Very Little Ebonite around here Fox Valley area of Wisconsin the only guy I see you using Ebonite is a Staffer.

People and around here dont have much faith in Ebonite Line, the Brands they own are a different Story but Ebonite itself Doesnt do well.

South and a little further west. Closer to the other Bush and W Bush. Bowlers aren't afraid to throw equipment on the dry. Especially since most didn't consider the Mission a super hooking ball. Maybe if you had lower speed it would be.

Hammer and Track have been the much bigger sellers. EBO and Columbia not so much. Even some of the die hards have gone to other stuff. I can't say I have seen anything from EBO or Columbia that has really struck my interest. The Burst and Freeze have been about it.

At the rate they are running through bowling balls eventually they will find something that people will like.

Wasn't planning for this post to be a statement on Ebonite's popularity, but I will throw this in:

I bowl in the Deep South and yes, oil is a problem (specifically, the lack of it). Unless you're going to be bowling on a USBC White/Blue league, Kegel league or PBAX, you don't need anything aggressive down here unless you're Two-Rev Johnny.

Ebonite Corp, specifically Hammer, is very popular here, owing to the fact that our local pro shops are Ebo shops. If someone goes in and has no idea what they want, chances are they'll be walking out with a Hammer or Ebonite piece. There's a little bit of Columbia out there but not much. Curiously, Track has almost no presence whatsoever. They're not even on the shelves.

For the rest of the bowlers, it's a mix. Brunswick has made a comeback (lots of Rattlers out there). We've got a 900 Global staffer living in the area now and there's starting to be quite a bit of 900G/AMF stuff out there thanks to word-of-mouth.

Lane #1 has a very solid following. I would actually say there's more of it than there is any other non-Ebo ball in our house. Most of the Lane #1 users here are the top-end bowlers. There isn't much "Diamond core worship" or any of that, just a bunch of guys who've had good luck with the equipment over the years and keep buying it.

Some Storm/Roto, not much. I'm the only person I know with a Motiv ball. A couple of people throw Visionary, LaneMasters, Elite and MoRich. No AZO or Seismic yet.
