Sandbaggers?
« on: August 26, 2004, 03:13:32 AM »
1st night of league last night. 1st game we got our butts handed to us...
The team we were playing come out the 1st game and shot almost 1200 pins.(5 man)
The next two games barely shot 700. 1st game they all shot at least 200 and a most shot way over 200. Next two games they never came close to 200.
We all shot our averages.
I mean at least try to look like you are trying....

Your thoughts?

Ty

TyLytle,
We have developed a bylaw in which a 5 man panel
(that we voted on at the beginning) will look into
situations like that in league. We as a leagie can
re-rate any individual/team at anytime, with just a
majority vote of captains.
Another instance:
There is a guy in our summer league who is a 215-220
average bowler, has held a 189 most of the year, yet
no one is doing anything about it, because the whole league
is crooked ! He gets in all the pots every week. The last
night he gets in nothing and proceeds to shoot 390 !
This will lower his incoming average to to the mid 180's.
Needless to say, this individual has been banned from both
of the leagues I run and he has recently moved to
Indianapolis IN due to employment. I plan on writing up
a thing on ballreviews later with the individuals name. I
traced an old average of his to 213 in an Indiana league,
yet all of his average in Illinois have been in the 180's.
This guy bowled in a collegiate program ! To wrap it up,
leagues should police this type of behavior, if they
care about keeping teams.

Hey, it's been a long summer.  Maybe they just got tired after the first game and were too wore out to bowl their best.  If not,

CRU-CI-FY THEM!!! CRU-CI-FY THEM!!!

Back to the old "where has the integrity in sports gone" debate.  If it's a 'just for fun' league, I'd just chalk it up to sad, but not so unexpected anymore behavior.  I've moaned and groaned, without results for too long to keep up the fight anymore.  I know, that's sad in itself.  But if I really get that worried about it anymore, I'll bowl in a scratch league.  I try not let it get to me anymore.  Sometimes I succeed.

Shoot first night of my mixed league I shot a 255 first game.  A guy who is a Scratch bowler walks up to me and says you are an idiot you won't see me shoot anywhere close to that.  Just keep it clean to get cards for the card game.  Has averaged over 200 for probably 20 years, but in his handicapped leagues always starts same way.  After first week average is at 170.  Of course in the scratch league he is already over 200.

I think it's all a matter of personal integrity.  The heck with the rest of them.  Just because others are doing it doesn't make it right; and you know it.  Be a man, not a lemming.

Na cold listen to this.  The league I am talking about pays every person the same amount of money except the winning team they get 10 dollars more per person.  Sell your soul for 10 bucks anybody.

I keep thinking about this.  I am the president of this league what do you people think I should do.  I mean he said it right to me.

If you know that he also bowls in handicap tournaments, I think you should report him to ABC and/or whoever is running the tournaments.  Now, I don't know what kind of proof you need or what's involved, but there's got to be some way to report this pick-pocket.

True but most tournaments use previous years highest book average.  Which for him is his scratch league for which his average is about 10 pins higher.

ah, the wonders of bowling in handicap leagues.  I've seen the entering average for 21 games and a 10 pin average drop rule, but it always seems that you'll find a few individuals who will trade their integrity for some big $s in pots or brackets.

Did I miss the event in the olympics where they give the slower guy a head start or the shorter high jump athlete a step ladder to make the height fair.  hmmmmm.

To simplify things, if you're a 200+ bowler, you shouldn't even waste your time bowling in a handicap league.  Bowl scratch and keep your integrity.  Although in those horrible situations where high game pots or brackets are handicap, I wouldn't bowl in them.  Stick to scratch if you average well.  Don't sacrifice your integrity.
