Sanding a Bowling Ball???
« on: January 08, 2004, 10:47:20 PM »
Can someone explain to me what sanding a bowling ball means please?  I own A 15# Nasty Nail that I can't seem to get to hook.  Maybe it's me.  Would "sanding" te ball make it more reactive?

Thanks

Sanding the ball would give it better grip on the lanes, and help it cut through the oil quicker. Thereby increasing the hook and shortening the breakpoint.

Do you have other bowling balls that you can get to hook?  How you throw the ball can be a much bigger factor than how sanded your ball is.  Sorry, I'm not familiar with your bowling style and you don't have a profile, so I had to ask.

Sanding the ball may or may not make it hook more. There is more to getting more hook than grabbing the next rougher sandpaper. If you want to adjust the surface, let a pro shop do the work. You can also destroy a ball if you don't know what you are doing. Not to confuse matters. But if the ball is already biting into the lane too much, it can also hook less. The ball can hook out or roll out and stop hooking before it reaches the pocket. What surface adjustment is necessary is dependent on how you roll the ball, the lane surface, the lane oil patterns, etc. So, what is right for your center could be totally different from day to day or definately in a different center.
