I am not a ball driller, but I do use the sarge-easter grip. The most important thing it seemed for me was to ensure the convential finger length was short enough to prevent me from trying to grip with my finger. My first attempt was too long and I had finger pains at the second joint. Just make sure the span on the ring finger is short enough and pitched so you don't try to grip it with that finger.
On a side note, I also put finger protection tape on my ring finger because I started to develop a bit of a callous on the outside edge of my finger nail. My next drilling will pitch the ring finger to the right a little more to try and match the way it sits in the hole. For me, when I am in the sarge-easter grip, my fingers sit with more right pitch than with a normal grip.
