Sawbones Update
« on: December 14, 2004, 01:26:19 PM »
Well, it's been a pretty tough ride for Dad and here is an update.

From the scope they did on the colon on Monday, it didn't look good and there was a mass that was blocking the colon.  The surgeon said that it looked like cancer but whatever it was needed to be removed.  I asked when he thought they could schedule the surgery and he said "in about 3 hours".  I was a little shocked but he didn't want to wait and he was willing to stay and do the operation.  Dad was fully aware of what was going to take place and agreed to do it then.

The surgeon meet my brother, myself, and dad's wife in the recovery room and told us that he thought everything went great.  He removed the mass and had to put in a temporary colostomy but he didn't see any spreading and the nodes looked to be normal.  We will not know about the results to find out if it's cancer for another day or two.

Sawbones was up and doing great this morning and has been all day except for the pain, which I'm sure is expected.  His attitude is great and he's glad that it happened during the winter so he will not miss much golf.  The doctor thought that he'd be out of the hospital in a week and would be able to play golf in a month or two.  In about 4 or 5 months, they'll go back in a remove the colostomy and hook his plumbing back up and he'll be as good as new.  I'm grateful for the professionalism of the staff and for dad's wit and attitude.  I look for a full recovery and many years of hearing him comparing bowling to golf.

I bowled tonight and decided to dedicate my set to him.  I haven't bowled much nor have I had any desire to.  Tonight, I stayed focus and thought of him on every shot.  As it turned out, I only need a couple of more strikes to shoot an 800 for him.  I called to tell him that 776 was all I could get tonight but the next time I'm in a position to get one, I'll be thinking of him.

Thanks again for all of your thoughts and prayers during this time.

Hose

Thanks for the update.  And a speed recovery to Sawbones, but please!!! no comparisons between ball drilling layouts and surgical procedures.  That would be way too much info.

and a Happy Holiday to all.

Here I'll post a question.

?

REgards,

Luckylefty
PS not as good as a Bones question but a question!
PPS if two bowlers were in for surgery and both had the same condition and the surgery went equally well who would you pick to be your golf partner in a money match????.  BONES!

HEY everyone, check out my "Support Sawbones" post.  WOrth a look and contribution.

I expect bones to recover quickly and fully.  No way he'll take being away from here that long.

Hose - I mean really, the things a guy will do to sandbag...

Just kidding.  Glad to hear your dad is doing fine and that the surgery is over.  I am sure he will make a speedy recovery and he'll be back soon enough to post.  I am sure he will come back and shoot another 800 series so we can read about him in the ABC quarterly magazine.

Give him a notepad of all the new topics he will want to write about in the meantime.
