Scholar and Vandal........ Both in the same bag?
« on: August 12, 2015, 03:39:56 PM »
Scholar and Vandal........ Both in the same bag? Got the Vandal a month ago or so and just picked up a Scholar for a great price. I'm a big fan of strong pearls so I was wondering is there enough difference between balls at box surface to justify having both in the same bag. Is one more angular than the other or can one handle more oil than the other or would it be better just with a surface adjustment on one ?

I have both balls and I carry both balls in the 5 ball arsenal that I use most often.  I used a larger angle sum layout on the vandal along with different surfaces on both balls.  The Scholar is 500 plus Royal Compound and the Vandal has been taken down to 4000 Siaair.  The Vandal is longer and more with more continuation at the breakpoint and hooks slightly less.  I believe you may be able to better take advantage of the roll characteristics of the Vandal and weaken its reaction by using a shorter pin to axis distance like maybe 2.5 and a longer drill angle.  Consult with your pro shop for options.  A closer pin to axis on an asymmetrical ball will perform directly the opposite of what it would on a symmetrical ball and will retain more tilt and axis rotation.  It will also flare less and increase length.  Hope this Helps!

I will try them both at box surface first to see how they compare on the same pattern and go from there. Just referred to my bowlers journal mags and they gave the scholar quite a bit more overall hook than the vandal. So maybe the vandal will be a nice step down from the scholar.

I see the Scholar as rollier than the Vandal and for me looked better with a light scuff
