Turbo Quads vs Vise
« on: June 29, 2013, 04:06:49 PM »
Alright, quick question - Right before I stopped bowling 3 years ago, I switched from VISE to Turbo and loved the oval with the mesh. I just had three balls refitted and bowled with them for the first time, and I'm using VISE because that's what my driller stocks, but I'm looking to go back to Turbo because I don't like the feel of the VISE inserts.

Question being, are there any sizing differences between the two? I.E. will Turbo 45/64 and 43/64 fit the same as VISE 45 and 43? Unfortunately I don't have any old Quads to compare and I don't want to order anything online until I have some type of idea.

My 'guess' would be--yes, they would be the same.  The only difference might be 'feel' b/c of different materials, but I would predict the size being the same.  Maybe somebody with more knowledge would know b/c I only stock Vise in both of my shops.

Thanks. Like I said, I don't have any left over Quads from when I first switched to them, not that they'd be of any use to me now anyway. I'm pretty sure I was using 3/4 in both fingers then anyway and that's all I had to begin with, so I don't remember whether they fit the same as the VISE inserts or not.

I went ahead and ordered 6 sets of Quads and I guess I'll find out when they get here.

Not many people left here that might be able to really answer your question...

Turbo Quads uses more of a box style (millied) oval and Vise uses more of a true oval... the width and height dimensions could be the same, but the box oval would seem to have more area/volume to fit a fingertip into.

Yeah, I gathered that from the lack of responses. Seems like all of the crowd from the old days abandoned ship. I got some more definitive answers over at BBE, so I went ahead and ordered them.

Thanks J Mac

They are the same size....but as the previous poster said the materials may make them feel different. I am a Turbo Extreme dealer so I haven't stocked or used Vise in some time but there are still some floating around the shop and some of my old equipment.

On a different note the Turbo urethane slugs DEFINITELY feel different as they are made of 100% urethane. Vise uses a blend of urethane and vinyl which makes for a slightly tackier feel.

Well that explains why I'm always scuffing my thumb slugs with sandpaper to get the feel right. I didn't know they were a urethane/vinyl blend. All I remember about the Quads is that I absolutely loved the mesh ovals and I don't like the smoothness of the VISE ovals. It's all about feel for me and I like texture.

You will almost always get more answers on BBE on anything because many former members here on BR have moved to BBE because of all of the constant abuse and name calling by some members here on BR.

The Turbo slugs are also easier to work with when a person has to use a bevel knife to shape the thumb.

I might also mention that I find the Vise finger grips to be more tacky feeling than Turbo, thus the reason I use Turbo most of the time as I don't like that tacky feel the Vise have. I can't speak for others, but that is the feel I get from them.
