Score consistency problem right now
« on: December 15, 2009, 01:49:07 PM »
As of late, I hsve been in afunk where i can put together 2 good games but tack on a horrible game to ruin the set. It varies on which game it is, typically after the first.

Tonight for example, started with 238 throing S-75, throwing the ball great, hitting my mark or getting very close with it (I am not a professional, haha) and coming off my hand good. Start the next game, tried my Break pearl as I saw transisition setting in quickly at the end of first game. Went strike, spare, strike, open thru nose, then light on a release a little left of target in the oil. So thinking to much went back to S-75 and struck so I thought it was ok. Well those good shots went throught the nose, and left ugly multi count splits, 3 in the next 4 frames. Then s very well thrown ball in 10th which leaves 4-9. So ended the game with 141. I had 2 balls that I got out a little to far to the right, while coming around the side a little to much. But the others where good.

Came back the next game throwing good, switch to Black pearl reactive and end with 228.

So this has been happening lately more often then i would like, not 141 bad, but 160's 170's enough to hurt a nice set. it seems when these games are happening, my margin for error is so slim, and that little miss always turns out with the worst results/ I feel it starts to get in my head, and the brain starts analyzing way to much or something.

Does anyone tend to have this problem? it happens in spurts with me, I do it for a little bit then it goes away and my game is on its consistent phase. Any tips to try to get my game and to any others with thius problem to kick it. It is really getting on my nerves.

I've been having very similiar result's with my own bowling in the last 5-6 week's on every night I bowl. I recently joined a leauge where the house is a real pit fall in itself. I have to bowl completely different in this 1 house to score decent at all. 1 week it's extremely oily, the next week it's extremely dry, next week it's okay but dries out by the end of the 1st game, ect.. Everyweek is different.

I beleive because of this house making me play different every week is messing with my timing and bringing out old and new bad habbit's. Just this past week I had a somewhat decent week score wise. Last wednesday shot 618, dead nut's average for the night and last sunday I shot my highest set in over a month with a 634.

My timing was the problem to the 2 good game's and the 1 horrible game. I finally figured out my feet were way too fast for the approach. I was taking 7 step's instead of 5. I was sneaking in a step at the start by starting off with my left foot and a little hicup step just before my release of the ball.

My way to fix this was to take my time getting to the line and suddonly my ball reaction on the lane looked as good as it usually does when I feel like I am at the top of my game.

When you're struggling like this it's usually timing, start there.

Maybe it's mental, but I think it's mostly because of the adjustments you're making.  I could be wrong, it wouldn't be the first time.  I think you can only try to learn from it and work on making better adjustments.  Maybe in the situation you described you shouldn't have even thrown the Break Pearl, probably should have stuck with the S75 for longer moving in if possible.  The Black Pearl Reactive seemed to be the ticket in the third game, maybe that ball was weak enough to save energy but smoother than the BP so it smoothed out the pattern better.

My 2 cents worth.
