Inconsistent Shoulder Tilt
« on: May 26, 2006, 06:16:08 AM »
League bowling after a layoff last season, I failed to even make a high grade of poor for the first half averaging ~170. My accuracy and precision at the arrows was not that bad but the ball seemed to have a mind of its own at the breakpoint. Over the holidays I talked to a guru from the past familiar with my game. When I told him mechanically I was not doing anything different he proceeded to tell me that you cannot lift today's aggressive equipment and maintain any degree of consistency. He convinced me to trade lift for leverage and told me how to move my center of gravity left and introduce shoulder tilt to generate leverage along with who to watch on the PBA tour (PDW for one). After battling through the uncomfortableness of this (hard to teach old dogs new tricks), my backend smoothed out markedly and I averaged ~210 for the last half to bring the year average to ~190.
My problem is that while tips like pointing the left hand skyward will get me into shoulder tilt, I cannot reproduce a consistent tilt angle and I am currently unable to find a key to focus on to correct this. Was looking for suggestions.
