How Many Bowling Balls Do You Use
« on: March 22, 2010, 03:30:06 AM »
I've notice several people have more than two bowling balls, just wondering how anyone can afford to buy so many.  I've got one that I use most of the time and can't afford to buy a new bowling balls every week, how can anyone do it?

I carry 3 now. No more and no less for any other kind of event I'm bowling in. I do not have a solid in my current ball lineup only because I never seem to have a use for it. I do own a couple solids but rarely use them. I haven't bought a new ball in several years now. My last 2 newest to me balls were a Gravity Shift and Natural and both were bought or traded on this forum. Paid $115 after all was done for 2 used balls after plug and redrilling.

If you think people buy a new ball every week you're truely mistaken! I don't know 1 person who buys a new ball every week, maybe a new ball once a month at most. I used to be a new ball every 3-5 weeks kind of guy but I was young and still learning a lot about my style. Now it's maybe a used ball once every 3-4 years.

lol wow the claws started to come out on this one

I have always carried just one, never a spare ball until last week .. I averaged 190s in jrs and 204-206 in majors..  So personally I think the idea or comment that just because he doesnt have a truck full of balls, hes not committed is BS..    It just means he can roll with the punches and change with the conditions..

I agree with LABRat with his comments.
I personally bring 4.  As mentioned in LABRat's post, many guys can average 200 with one ball.  However, to regularly score more than 220, it will take carry, not just getting to the pocket.  This is the reason to have options.  Sometimes you want to change the entry angle to carry better or play a line that you're more comfortable with, etc.

I recently wrote this article on my site:

Remember, having more options is not the key, it's knowing how and when to use those options.  The article really focuses on making sure you understand your arsenal.

I use one bowling ball at a time.

Actually, I only have 11.  Granted, they've been collected since 1991, and two of them were given to me...  So that's what, one every 2 years on average that I bought?  I don't know how I do it.

Agree.  Just saying that having the equipment is not the key.  Having lots of equipment and not knowing what to do with it is much more detrimental than simply having one ball.
