How do you Conquer this?
« on: February 07, 2006, 02:16:02 PM »
This is a question that is directed mainly towards regional pros or really good bowlers as a whole.
(my story)
You walk into the lanes smelling the fresh scent of lane oil on the lanes.  It's 9 o clock in the morning and your league is about to start.  you unpack your stuff, and roll a few practice shots.  everything is feeling great.  Your mark is perfect and the ball is Carrying no matter where you put it in the pocket.  You start bowling for score, and you start stringing the strikes.  (you've shot 300 before so you don't think a whole lot about it), you get to 9 or 10 in a row.  Crowd starts gathering.  roll the 11th one, perfect!..  last shot you roll, another perfect shot and you roll 300.  Now this is the first game of the day and you know that you still have 2 more games ahead of you.  So you try not to get overly excited about the 3.  You have everyone comming up to you asking to shake your hand and everything,  You kind of just want everyone to go away so that you can just concentrate on your bowling again, but you don't want to be rude and refuse to shake their hand.  You start the next game and get a couple strikes, and here your only 2-3 frames into the game and you hear people behind you saying, "well here we go again", or asking you if your going for 3 again or the all out best question "you going to shoot 900?"  you go up on the next shot and trying not to think about what everyone has been saying you roll your shot, but something is wrong and either you don't hit pocket or you just flat out don't carry.

Now, for those of you who have rolled multiple 300s in a set how do you get past these annoying onlookers and just concentrate on your game?  I know that experience has a lot to do with it, but geez, it really does get frustrating.

Il Bowler, sounds like you have to start bowling with earphones.

If you know who's shouting when you're on a string, pepper spray them in the parking lot after league.

Normally I can block these insults out as my entire youth bowling was filled with kids trying to knock me off my game with saying "your gonna gutter it!" or other things along the line. Something about a quiet bowling alley and a screaming voice in the background that distracts me. Hmmm dunno what it could be. After the game I found out who the person was and instead of beating the living day lights out of him, I calmly explained to these guys that shouting while that person is in their approach is never appropriate. They understood and all 3 people did applogized.
