Athens Pattern
« on: April 29, 2011, 02:34:45 AM »
I am bowling the new Team USA League this summer and thought it would be cool to put up a pattern review, So if you guys see the patterns will have a idea what is coming.

ATHENS: Bowled at Sabre Lanes Well kept wood surface. Pattern is 40 feet and a lighter volume. When I looked at the graph of the pattern I figured I would see more hold across the lane what we actually seen. As a result of that thought I brought gear that was to strong for the pattern but I can give useful facts. First off Athens plays similiar to PBA Chameleon. Very little hold in the center of the lane, When I attempted to get deep with my AfterMath Pearl(35x41/2x35) and Epicenter (70x5 1/2x60) I had very difficult time finding the right speed and hand combination it was very picky and I would not recommend getting deep until the outside of the pattern is very well broken down.

Playing straighter with less hand during practiced produced a ok look going 13 out to about 8 but as I said the gear I was using was to strong and IMO if I would have had weaker gear I would have nad no issue on this outside line.

The only look I had was all night was with my Euporia Drilled (70x4x40) going 15 out to 8 during thre last game. Euporia Pushed easier through the lighter volume of oil and created a much easier line to play than the stronger gear mentioned above.

Overall: Bring weaker equipment this pattern changes very rapidly and quick adjustments are very important. Only reliable hold is right of 10 or so and it held up out their quite well all four games.

Thanks.  We're switching to the Team USA patterns as well for the summer and I've never bowled on any of them.  I printed off the "cheat" sheets from Bowl.com as well.  I have no idea what order we'll see the patterns, so any info you have might be beneficial.
