Just watched the clash on CBS and let me tell you what a joke Sean Rash is. He needs to take it down a couple of notches and stop acting like a kid after he bowls a strike. The first thing he should of done is went over to the kid he bowled against and extended his hand. He displayed no class at all in yelling at the crowd like a maniac. Way to go Sean! You are classless.
-
I agree 110%.. I am not and never have been a Rash fan..
On a side note, how great was that 17 year old girl and her duel with Liz Johnson..

Since he won on tour, he has turned into the biggest PUNK ever... Just ask any pro, they will tell you he's way to cocky!!!! That was, however an embarrass to the PBA for sure! I sure hope someone tells him what an jerk he was so maybe next time he wont embarrass the professional status.............
-
Agree 1000% Talented but sure acted like a IDIOT!!
-
Son of a... I knew I forgot to watch something this evening. Oh well, probably didn't miss much anyhow, right?

I was pretty disgusted when that martinez kid put out his hand to shake sean rushes. after displaying such unsportmans like attitude, I wouldn't have even looked at sean, much less stand there and wait for him to quit yelling to shake my hand.
-
One things a fact, I sure as heck wont be rooting for him to win tom.... People like him ruin the sport! I been to the national level, and people like him is the reason that I wont go back!!!!!!!
-
Coming from a non US citizen I thought his "Antics" were the type of thing you guys liked to see? I thought you liked all that "Shouting" and "In your face" attitude?
Personally I can't stand it,there is being pumped up and then there is just being classless.

I would have got away with it if it was not for those pesky kids (Behind my lane) and those blasted 10 pins.

We had a guy like that around here. He started running his mouth off and some one finally just lost it. This guy about 6' 6" 280 backhanded the kid and knocked him out for 2 minutes. That put him in his place. That is what Sean needs. I nominate Walter Ray. He is big enough.

Sean Rash went too far and not showing sportmanship. That to me is down right disguting to the sport and PBA as well.I agree LOCKE that he Sean Rash should be knock down a few notches. If I was bowling against him,I would knock him down a notch or two or get that 6'6" 280lbs to knock Sean flat. One of these days someone is going to nail Sean with a right.

I never heard of that. so I hope U can explain that to me. sean was not a very sportsman bowler. but I like the jenny she gave liz all she could handle. then went to high or to slow. wish jenny could of won.
Fancy terminology for a backup up ball.(Right handed bowler throwing a lefty hook) Rash needs to go to the Dentist!

I don't even think Sean really shook Martinez's hand. It was more of wet noodle "i wont even give you the time of day" hand shake. Listen i am not here to bash Sean, i'm just dissapointed in him. Here you have bowling on network tv and it ends on a horrible note. Even Bo Burton was speechless. This is exactly the type of situation where the veterans on the PBA need to pull him aside and talk to him. Heck Bo should step up and say something.

A Cutter is a sharp breaking hook.
They got it from a English Cricket term-
Cutter
a break delivery bowled by a fast or medium-pace bowler with similar action to a spin bowler, but at a faster pace. It is usually used in an effort to surprise the batsman, although some medium-pace bowlers use the cutter as their stock (main) delivery.

Sean has always been cocky, and those of us who grew up bowling against him kinda know that..but what I saw today was way over the top. I mean it was one shot and he acted like he just won the world championships or something..great bowler but damn that was bad

I don't think Sean Rash was being cocky at all. Yes he may have went over the top when celebrating, but he was only putting on a show for those of us at home.

And that is something the PBA has been looking for and trying to get the bowlers on TV to do... but if you read between the lines it sounds like he does this sort of garbage irregardless of whether the cameras are rolling or not.

Agree...too much is too much A local who bowls on the regional tour said he won't give others the time of day. Too bad. I watched him earlier today on ESPN in a doubles event with Pete Weber. They lost when Rash's shot went high and left a split. Felt bad for PDW, but not for Diaper.

None of you ever will be as good as Sean Rash. Look what he came from, Alaska. How many people do you know that are stars from Alaska? His name is out there, and the kid is a beast. Everyone gets over-wild sometimes, it happens. If anyone out there says they can throw the ball better then him, I'd love to see it.

However, if any of you ever catch me acting like him, I hereby give you permission to knock me out on the approach. I don't care where you come from, acting like an asshat is acting like an asshat.

And I might have let it go today, but this wasn't a PBA event. And he was bowling a friggin' KID. Nice job, Rash.
I write a column twice a week for my newspaper group (I'm the editor); a lot of the times, it's about bowling. I think you know what I'll be writing about next week.

This has nothing to do with ability. And "these type of people" need an attitude adjustment. If that describes how you like to act, as well, my same comments apply to you. People who act like a-holes typically get what's coming to them sooner or later.
I guess if the PBA wants Rash doing that stuff on PBA telecasts and at PBA functions, they can have at it, but once he gets down to the USBC level, he's accountable to me and every other USBC bowler he represents. He badly embarrassed himself today and he embarrassed me, my teammates, my leaguemates and everyone else associated with the sport right along with him. He blew up on a K-I-D for crying out loud. If it had been against Weber, it might not have been such a big deal (it would still have been poor sportsmanship) but this was outright ridiculous.
Tell you what -- if you think this has a place in bowling, come bowl in my league sometime. If you had done what Rash did today, you would have left for the parking lot on a stretcher. The only question would have been which of about 30 guys would have knocked you out first, and no, no one would have had your back.

Dang, I missed it. From the sounds of it I really want to see this for myself. Although it doesn't surprise me at all. I at one time really respected him, until the tournament last year? in Milwaukee when he was bowling Danny Wiseman. Danny of course was the hometown hero at that tournament. After Sean got up and put Danny away in the 9th he turns around and just screams at the croud "Who's your hometown hero now? huh?" Ever since that point he's just been another PDW to me. Very good bowler, Very horrible sportsman. Anybody know when this is being rerun? I'd like to get it on DVR.
Jeremy
I will say that PDW has gotten much better since Dick passed away, he seems to much more down to earth.

I think Jess hit the nail on the head. Rash is representing us as bowlers at the USBC level, which is why his actions bother me so much. It makes no difference if he did it to a kid or adult, it was a pathetic display of sportsmanship. I was insulted as a bowler. I just can't believe this is what the PBA is asking for out of their bowlers.

is this by chance on Youtube or something??? Is it going to re-air at all this week??? I'm curious to see how far he took it and judge for myself...

Interesting that in the same week in the same city Rash's peers chose not to re-elect him as an athlete representative to the USBC board, instead electing Del Ballard Jr.
From the convention notes on bowl.com ...
Athlete Board members
Lynda Barnes, Double Oak, Texas, and Del Ballard Jr., were elected by USBC athletes to serve as athlete representatives to the USBC Board of Directors beginning Aug. 1. They replace Diandra Asbaty, Chicago, who did not seek re-election, and Sean Rash, Wichita, Kan., who was considered.

This was the Junior Gold winner, I believe. He looked to be somewhere in his mid-teens.
There's a post in the Lane #1 forum from his ball driller talking about how he cracked out the bridge in his old ball (that's ball, singular) and had to get a replacement drilled basically at the last minute, so we're obviously not talking about someone anywhere near Rash's level as a player or with as many tools available as Rash had. Yet Rash still went off after beating him.
I noticed Rash was positively subdued on the second-day telecast Sunday. Perhaps someone told him to tone it down a little after the first day.

It was all taped Thursday.

I know, but they still had a break in the action between the time he bowled the kid (what was aired Saturday) and when he bowled the Pfeifer guy (which aired Sunday). It wouldn't have surprised me to know he came off the lanes Saturday and someone grabbed him and told him what kind of goober he had just got finished resembling.

He is 20. So he is not a kid.
From bowl.com:
A year after finishing seventh at the USBC Junior Gold Championships, Martinez, 20, of San Antonio broke through to win the U.S. Junior Amateur title. He is a two-time Greater San Antonio Bowling Association Youth Bowler of the Year and also is a two-time winner of the Texas Youth Masters championship.
-
Yeah Rash looked like an idiot. I'm glad Lynda Barnes beat him. Its one thing to be all happy and excited but he is suppose to be a pro and didn't act like one. If it was against PDW that would be different compared to a college kid.
-
I think Lynda B took Sean down a notch smacking him around most of the game, and beating him in the end.

I'm so glad that Lynda won , she has very low revs , I think they said 175 and Rash had like it was either 425 or 455 . I guess it shows that revs aren't everything, its nice to see accuracy counts for something. Again hats off to Lynda

that's not good enough for some people on here that won't look past the fact that he throws a back up ball..Some will say he can't be competitive that way..I think he will be..he's been competitive for some time now.
And it was nice to hear Sean was a little more subdued this time around. I missed the second show with exception to the beginning of the first match due to a tornado in the area and local news taking over every local station.

I agree that maybe Sean was trying to put/keep some excitement in the game, though maybe this time in poor taste. The pro bowlers are trying to add some life/excitement to bowling on television especially in hopes to bring back the viewers and sponsors, though again I say, maybe he went too far on this venue.
Nothing wrong with throwing a backup ball, just a bit unusual at that level.

Um...did you watch the match? Lynda Barnes got lucky on at least 3 shots. So her "accuracy" was not all that. Sean Rash's balls were pretty much allthere. She bowled great and won, but Rash bowled better.

I didn't actually see this event, but I haven't been a big fan of Sean's since he won his first title. On that first show he appeared humble and excited to win. Since then, he just comes off as cocky and arrogant.
Now, it's probably already been said, but it's pretty obvious that Sean is the PBA's new bad boy, supplanting PDW. I'm sure he's being encouraged to take it up a notch and get a little bit crazy, but there are limits. It sounds as if he went over the line a bit here. Oh well, that's the way it goes these days. The PBA is always looking to attract newer, younger sponsors, so this is the byproduct.

Alright, I'm probably going to get flamed for this but I completely agree... After watching this on Youtube, if that shows everything, I don't see what the big deal is... In fact, I think it could be just what bowling needs.... I'm sorry, but I would rather watch my lawn grow than watch Walter Ray Williams bowl. Walter Ray could put insomniacs to sleep. You all may disagree but you will watch Sean Rash next time, like him or not, just to see what he'll do next.... I have to be honest, I like his intensity and arrogance. I find it refreshing with professional bowling. I also think having a bad guy is good for the PBA, now all they need is an exciting good guy, and please don't try to tell me WRW is exciting...LOL...

That's all fine and good, but this wasn't a PBA event. It was a USBC event. If the PBA wants to promote that kid of pro wrestling, heel-vs-face type of conflict on their telecasts, that is their right. But on a telecast meant not to showcase the PBA, but rather the entire spectrum of competitive bowling, people who don't typically watch PBA telecasts got to watch a professional react in that way towards a very inexperienced amateur. It just wasn't a very bright thing to do.

I just watched it again on the YouTube clip and i'm even more disgusted with Rash's behavior. Maybe this is just a sign of the times and what is now acceptable in American sports competition. One thing i do know, if you celebrated the way Rash did not too long ago people would think your nuts. Like something was seriously wrong with you.
-
I am not against emotion as long as its real champ. If you watch the video it looks like Sean Rash is trying to be someone else. When PDW did it he was just being himself. Big difference. Never said I liked PDW's displays either but at least his actions were him being himself and not some fabricated crap. Also I've actually met and talked to both. PDW will not only talk but actually listen to you. Sean Rash acts like a complete dickhole on and off the lanes.
-
I just want to know who was he calling out. That was the weird part for me. As for the kid Martinez, Rash didn't brush him off but he wasn't all that friendly either (kinda cold shoulder hand shake, like the kid was in his way to talk more smack to the crowd). I know 50k was on the line, but man this is supposed to be in fun. If you can't have fun bowling, what's the point? Rash is too serious, he needs to loosen up. And he didn't do anything other than advance from a one ball sudden death elimination round. Hardly the reason for all of that.
