Sean Rash . . um, wow
« on: December 10, 2006, 04:18:46 AM »
He throws one of the best balls I've ever seen in my life, but he's being a SUPER prick right now.  Being from Kansas and having bowled against him a few times in juniors and seeing him shoot back to back 800's in the state tournament last year, I was naturally a fan, but the stuff he's doing on tv right now is really turning me off.  Yelling at the fans after beating Danny about "Who's your hometown hero now?" (or whatever he said), and then when Parker just playfully threw the towel at him, he just arrogantly flipped it up in the air and sauntered back to his chair.  He's a great bowler and he'll win plenty of tournaments, but I hope he grows up so I can start rooting for him again.

P.S., the Total is a BEAST . .

I never said it was alright that Weber does that too opponents, what i meant is Sean opened himself up to all veterans like Weber to put him in his place. I think he has major game i am impressed by his skills, i know friends of his in fact i know one of TJ's best friend very well.

The difference is TJ makes the crowd his friend by saying come on let's go and stuff like that. Not how do you like your hometown hero now???? I hear Sean is very cool guy just saying he will make himself look bad by cutting his fellow bolwers whether it is another newbie or WRW.

I am not against pumping yourself up, i am just against cutting down your opponent on national tv. In fact i hear numerous times that Weber is well liked on tour and that they all understand he is just putting on a show on tv. I do not dislike Rash yet but i can find that happening depending on future tv appearances.

Wow, that would suck so bad.  I keep watching in the hopes that Weber, Voss, Duke and more get on TV.

So, being young is an excuse for acting like an ass?  He is supposed to act like a PROFESSIONAL bowler....key word PROFESSIONAL.

Have you ever seen TIGER say, "Hey, mickelboobs, nice shot into the hospitality tent".  NO!  Because they are professionals.  I'm sure they talk trash behind the scene, in the locker room or practice rounds.  But, the new owners of the PBA have failed to make it more exciting, IMO.  If I wanted to watch stupid trash talk and such, I'd just watch the WWE.

I didn't see the show prior to reading this thread.  As soon as Rash opened his piehole, I turned off the sound.

Andrew

You must not have read some of my post.  Now, I see that you're 25, so I cant really say anything about your age.  There is no need to compare these guys to any other sport.  OK, so they are the "professionals," but you know what?  It's only because they are on TV that we rank them that high.  Yes, they are better than us when it comes to bowling, but frankly, it is still a sport, and trash talking will be a part of it. Always.  So what if you think Tiger never does that on tv.  He is not mic'd every time he plays.  The media makes it worse with being able to hear everything these guys say on a PBA telecast.

Why not pick on Danny and a few other guys that have cursed after a bad shot.  What about the kids who hear this?  Where is the anger from all of you against that?

I just think it would be wiser for Sean to keep a low profile until he's been out there longer.  Granted, he's a phenomenal bowler and somebody even the veterans should worry a little about, but he's not going to gain any respect from very many people.  Take a guy like Machuga . . love the guy, gets excited, but still maintains a jovial attitude.  He's out there to win, not show anybody up.

I know it might sound hypocritical to support Weber and not Rash, but Weber's been there for years and years.  It's kinda like the fact that people who have been at a job for a while or veterans in all other sports get a lot more leniency.  If you come in with guns blazing, you'd better have the skills to back your mouth up, which he does, but at the same time, he's still inexperienced on the tour, and one of these days, somebody's gonna make him look stupid, and do it quietly and move on.  I just don't think it's wise to walk in and act like you own the place . .  I think some maturity and humility would get him a lot further with everybody.  Who's going to want to be associated with him if he acts like that?  I'll still say that what he said and how he said it is still worse than what Pete does.  Pete just goes at his opponent, Sean went for the entire bowling fan population of Baltimore AND a veteran.  Not every bowler in Baltimore likes Danny and only Danny just because he's from Baltimore . .

I'd much rather my son hear a "bad" word than start belittling his opponents.

Sean should do this, Sean should do that. All easy for any of us to say what the kid should do. We are the ones watching him wishing we could be out there. If I recall Pete Weber use to do a lot worse and IMO still does then what Sean did. How many times in a NBA game or NFL game are things said to the crowd about "hometown heros"? He said it in the heat of the moment. The towel toss I thought was just horse play between him and Parker. Anyways that's what it looked like to me. I know I wish I could be 4-0 on tv with 2 titles under my belt.

That's the great thing about this site, isn't it?  If it weren't for double standards, there would be no standards at all.

Sean is a good kid.  I think its funny how people are quick to judge someone, but if they were to be on TV, how would you REALLY act?  You dont know what was going through his mind, mabey some fans in the Baltimore area do love him, we'll never know.  Atleast he didnt act like a true idiot like Ernie.  The PBA want the bowlers to get the crowd involved, and he did.  He didnt tell everyone that Baltimore sucks, or anything like that.  The whole Wichita State team(s) are like family.  I never went there, but have lived here in Wichita for about 2 years now, and so far everyone that I've met, have been really cool!  I've only seen Sean a few times, but he's always "just having fun."

Music and business, maybe. But sports, no. Generally the players that demean their opponents are the ones that are nationally hated.

See the University of Miami!  Pretty much hated by anybody outside of Miami b/c all they recruit are thugs and wannabes.

I read most all of the comments on this thread.  What I failed to see mentioned is what caused Sean to say what he did?  Were any of you there?  Did any of you hear what was said to Sean by people in the audience?  There might be more to this than what we saw on TV.

I've bowled with Sean, watched Sean, and bowled with many WSU bowling program alums.  I don't think they teach you to act any certain "aggressive" way.  They are mostly very intense, but all are different.  Barnes lets his emotions show, Walicek not so much.  Sean is not your regular Tour rookie.  He's been around, all over the world, the Tour players knew who he was long before he got out there.  I'll go watch the show again.......

George, you can believe it, because it happened in my shop during our annual Luci Bonneau Doubles.  There are no tour reps there.  Sean probably thought it was okay, because it was me, but he didn't ask first, and he did go around a good number of people that had been waiting without asking anyone anything.  I wasn't in the shop at the time, I was bowling, but ole poptartking is not a liar.  He doesn't embellish like I like to do..... LOL!

poptart... why do I have a hard time believing that he walked into your pro shop and tried to (as you are accusing him) steal an abralon pad?!! He has a ball rep by the name of Rick Benoit that can supply him with all the abralon/scotch pads he needs. Why did he need yours?!?! I don't quite understand that!! Maybe he did, but I am doubtful of it

Mike, I was at the show, unfortunately from where I was sitting (left corner of side bleachers, just behind the approach, facing the lanes). I didn't even hear Sean's comment until I watched the tape at home.  I don't know if someone in the crowd said something or not.

I didn't even hear Danny' Oh-S--- because of the crowd noise.  As for the towel toss with Parker, from my perspective that was very much done playfully by both of them.
