season is over for me - maybe not
« on: February 15, 2016, 08:51:03 AM »
I was on the lane when in the middle of my backswing, I thought someone threw something at the back of my left lower leg. Pop , now I can barley walk. I have never had this happen before. I just hope I don't need surgery. Doctors today and I will find out the bad news. This sucks.  :'(

How low? Could it be your Achilles? If so, not cool.

ouch.

Condolences on the loss of the season.  Hopefully not significant enough to impact next season

Very unfortunate hopefully you can rest without needing surgery and be back strong for the fall...... My best wishes to you.

Good luck! I had an incident returning from bowling Wednesday afternoon. Pulling my two ball bag up my 5 steps from the garage my feet got caught behind the bag. I went face forward down the steps. Lucky I didn't hit anything with my head and also lucky I didn't break anything. My left hand is swollen and in pain. My wife suggested ice packs that has brought the swollen down after 3 days. Planned a doctor visit this morning but icy roads kept me home. Don't think I'm out of action .. right handed .. hope you are as lucky as I was ..

Good luck.  A few years ago, I had my wrist pop as I was coming out of the ball and was in some pain.  I finished out the 2nd and 3rd games but ended up with a partially torn tendon.  Luckily it didn't need surgery but it killed part of the bowling season for me.  Hopefully you won't be out of action long but take the time you need to recover the right way.

Thanks for all of the support.  I am seeing a orthopedic surgeon today. The only thing I can say is I can walk, somewhat. It only hurts when I move it a certain way. So maybe (hopefully) it's not too bad of an issue. As much as I want to get back on the lanes, I wont rush it. What really sucks is our team is in 1st place on Tuesday night. That hurts too cause now I can't help. I will update. Thanks again.

Now the GOOD news ---- I did not tear my tendon, therefore I don't need surgery!!! Doctor said to wear a compression sock and rest the leg for 4 weeks. Then I may be able to get back on the lanes. I can already walk again. It only has minor pain, depending on how I move it. So it looks like I got really lucky and my season may not be over! :)

I'm glad to hear that it wasn't as serious as you had originally feared! ;D

Now when I do get back on the lanes, whenever that is. How can I overcome my fear of -- this could happen again?  I will be very tentative when I am releasing the ball. I am already thinking about this, and I have weeks to go.

That's good to hear it wasn't as bad as you thought.  The big thing to do is take it nice and easy for a little bit.  Also you may just want to stretch out a bit prior.  That can help with getting the leg/knee loose and help you be more comfortable.

Once you get the competitive juices flowing after a few practice shots it'll become harder to hold back :) Just trust your doc and trust your body, those are the 2 biggest keys in getting over injuries.

When you go bowling for the first time, you can't worry about whatever it is that occurred this time from happening again. It is either going to happen or not, so if it is going to happen, doesn't matter what you do, it is going to happen. So just go in, bowl like normal, and if it happens it was meant to be. Go get it fixed afterwards and come back stronger when you can.
