Secretary Fees
« on: August 16, 2007, 11:10:15 PM »
I wanted to know if anyone could tell me what they pay the league secretary for leagues. How many teams in the league and so forth. I am just trying to see what other secretary's are being paid....too much...not enough... please add your thoughts and comments. This is for winter leagues and no treasurer. Thanks.

We have a 16 team league, 5 man teams, bowling is $10 per week/bowler and we pay $600 for the league season.

I think ours is set up like
20 teams 5 per team, .20 per man per week

20 x 5 x .20 x 32 = 680.00 for the year

Are these replies referring to winter leagues? Also, is there a separate treasurer who's getting paid as well?

I'm afraid to disclose what I get paid for running a summer league. Suffice it to say that in 14 weeks, I'm going to make more than the first two examples. (individually, not combined!)

wow, ours is a winter league,
better then 680.00 for 14 weeks works out to better then 48.00 a week, for aobut an hours worth of work?  with increased usage of bowling software like bolwing secretary or league secretary, it doenst take 45 minutes or so to post.

my personal opinion is secretary fees are getting out of hand, especailly with ever increasing linage and usbc fees.

our secretary is the treasurer as well, very typical in this area

This is kicked around every year. Seems like last year's winter league average was somewhere around $.50-$.65 per person, per week, if I remember right.

I got $0.50/person/night for my PBA league this summer.  Covered the cost of bowling and that's about it.  The winter secretaries get around $0.40-$0.50/person/night.  The secretary for the men's league is getting about $1200 at the end of the season.

How about $0.75 per bowler.  That's on a 35 week league, 5 person teams, and 28 teams in the league.

Oh, then there is a misc supply fee of $0.35 per bowler, per night.  The misc fee was supposed to cover supplies and any extra was to go back into the prize fund (in lieu of selling 50/50 tickets).

I'm pretty sure the center takes care of most of the work as BLS is licensed to the center.

Just checked last years ending stats and the secretary only bowled 9 weeks.  That's one heck of a part time job......just under $3700 for a few hours of work each week (at the most!).

We each pay a flat fee within the first 3 weeks of league.

Monday Sport League $15/bowler it looks like 16 - 18 teams of trios so it winds up being $720 - $810 She is cheap, she runs the side pot, brackets, does the league sheets, normal secretary and treasure duties.

Wednesday NBAC $10/bowler 24 teams of 4 $960 he organizes the teams and all other secretary duties.

The fees are the same winter and summer.  The total paid varies depending on the number of teams for the season.

I'm stunned.

2 leagues I bowl in down here in TX.

One secretary gets $1 per bowler per set.  (and she earns every penny)

The other gets 60 cents.

Our supplies come from the secretary's fees, we pay out of our own pocket.  For recap sheets, paper, ink, even mailing notices that the leagues will be starting up again on X date.  It amazes me that the secretaries here use inkjet printers given that they have to buy their own ink.  $100-150 for a cheap B/W laser will save a several hundred dollars over the life of the printer.

What a business this would be. I think you can buy a fairly descent SECRETARY software for less then $200.  Buy it and then take over the job in all the leagues in one (maybe 2) centers .. seven leagues in one house with a $2,000 charge/league could pay for your bowling for a while ..and you can beat TAXES! WOW!

Ours is .75 cent a bowler. 5 bowlers x 32 teams, this year we get the whole house(40 lanes) and if we fill them.  It will be even sweeter for him.   He uses league secretary.  Back when they had to do everything manually it was worth it but now software does everything for them so I don't know why secretary fees didn't go down.  Heck I should run for secretary next year.  A good part time job.

Trust me, my wife is a secretary for 2 leagues. I had to do her job for a week last year, family emergency, what she gets paid, she earns !

Taxes ? Better check out the new IRS book, you have to claim the monies paid, just as in any other job, to be legal. Now, will some not declare it ? NOT MY problem, but this year, they must pay taxes on monies earned.
