Is this Sandbagging?
« on: August 15, 2007, 05:20:08 AM »
Question:

A bowler lives in a small town that has only 1 sixteen lane house.  The nearest house is 30 miles away in another town.  This house is old, wood lanes, and is using a Century 100 lane machine.  The high average in the house is 190.  The lane pattern is not the great wall of china.  The bowler in question averages 185.  He has booked 183-185 in each of the last 3 years since he moved to this town in multiple leagues at this house for 32 week league or longer.

He goes to HDCP tournaments and bowls very, very well.  Averaging well over 200 and winning or cashing high in these tournaments.

Someone checks him out on bowl.com and notices that 4 years ago, he lived in a major metropolitan city and averaged 223.

Is this bowler a sand bagger?

FYI - The above case is not me.

NO  not bagging  it happen to me this pass year.

2005-2006 season bowled 3 nights at 3 houses
and 1 was 50 miles away took turns driving
had a good time and started at 6;30pm.

other 2 houses about 20 miles away
2005-2006 avgs 221-218-205

last year 2006-2007  with work I went down
to 1 night at the closes house where I avg 205
starts at 7:00pm It is a hard house older and
older oiler and a manager that don't bowl
thats the kicker if you say anything about
the lanes his answer is I don't know I don't
bowl and I oiled the lanes and I asked were they
stripped I got no answer anyway.

last season 2006-2007 I avg 203 1 night a year was
about 6th or 7 high in the whole place.

there was a tourney at one of the other houses
it was using your 2007 ending avg mine was 203
bowlers are mean called a bagger ect.

then I said to 1 guy why don't you come and
bowl where I bowl his answer I won't bowl there
to hard.  I couldn't drive a hour to bowl at easy
house and they won't drive to bowl at a harder house.

at least I try and we won the league and my son bowled
me it was great. But now he thinks it to easy to win.

not everybody is a bagger
a center next summer is having a certified sport
shot I want to try it.

they rerate bowlers avgs from sport shot league

just wanted to let so steam off.
later RB good bowling

sandbagging? if that is sandbag u should read this

old lady, book average 120-130

came to a handicap tournament at my alley and averaged 220, thats sandbagin
--------------------
When a house bowler misses the mark, misses the break point and strike, for many ppl its called a wallshot. When a pro does that its call adjustment

When a house bowler gets his finger stuck in the ball and fall on the lanes, for many ppl its called lame bowler. When a pro does that its called the Machuga flop! ha i like this one.

"Yes, if the bowler didn't try everything in his arsenal and abilities to roll his best."

What do you use to define that arsenal?  If one pulls a ball out of the closet to see how it works, does his/her best, and still scores much lower than his/her average...would that be sandbagging?  What if the bowler has been using certain equipment and torching the lanes, then chooses to bring different equipment which just doesn't work as well?  Is a bowler required to bring only equipment that he/she will be able to score with?

That is the biggest problem with bowling.  I could bring one ball and average 230+ with it, then I could bring a different ball and be lucky to average 190+ with it, based solely on the ball characteristics.  Realistically one could get rid of all of their equipment, get one ball drilled to work "not so well," try his/her best with the equipment they have, and legitimately average low.  Said player could later get all new equipment and "become" a better bowler.

The fact that a ball and its characteristics could make one look to have lesser ability than they do...HUGE problem.
