trying,
I bowl in several leagues and participate in tournaments on a regular basis, mostly handicap. I'm not good enough to compete with the scratch guys on a day-to-day basis, not to mention the PBA guys.
My son, who is the younger of my two children, is the only other bowler in the family. He bowled with me in adult/child leagues since he was twelve. He is in his first year of college, and just turned eighteen at the end of September. Even though he only bowled every other week, he managed to get his average up to just over 190. He is now a reserve member of his college bowling team, but he doesn't really have time to participate. We were asked if he wanted to join with no particular obligation, other than the fee, so he did. For his fee, he gets a locker and free practice whenever lanes are available.
I am very active in the local ABT branch, and when he was younger, my son accompanied me to many of the tournaments. He has been eagerly, but patiently waiting to turn eighteen, so he could join and bowl ABT (ABT rules require a bowler to be eighteen or older to join). His time has finally come (see above), and he will be joining ABT and bowling his first event when he comes home at Thanksgiving. We are both looking forward to it.
