I posted the honor score topic a week or so ago, and since then have done a lot of thinking.  I think it's just that I'm kind of old school.  I make goals for myself, and they're usually high reaching goals, things that very few other people have done, so that when I say I did it, it carries some weight to it.  There just doesn't seem to be anything like that in bowling.  If you say you shot 300, well so did 40k other people.  This year.  You say you shoot 800, and the first question is, "What was the break that did it for you?"  Somebody shoots 900, then there's always a rant about how this sport has gone downhill and how ridiculous it is.  You tell somebody you averaged 250 for the year, and you get, "Well, with the combination of the equipment that's out and the lane conditions, I can see that happening."  There's nothing you can do in bowling that carries that wow factor with it.  A hole in one in golf has to be one of the luckiest things that can happen to a person, but if I got on here and said I got one of those, no one would go, "Yay, big deal, just a really lucky shot."  So maybe if somebody wins a PBA title it means something, right?  No, not really.  You get guys like Eugene McCune, who I can't stand, and then it's, "Well, that guy sucks, Cheetah is the only pattern he can win on."  Wes Malott?  "Well, he hooks the ball a ton and the pins all fall down everytime he so much as touches the headpin."  There is just excuse after excuse for blowing away people's achievements in bowling. 

 

Now personally, because of that, I don't get the buzz I feel I should get after a big game or a big set, and because of that, it's almost more of a let down than a bad night.  At least if I shoot 600 or something I don't feel too disappointed.  With the honor scores it feels like, "Yeah, it should be awesome, but it's not, so who cares?"  However, even with that opinion, I can still give you the exact number of all my 800s, and how many of every honor score I have.  Now naturally I don't have a million, so it's easy to keep track, but that takes me to part two of this topic . . see the other thread.

Ok.  I suppose I'm trying too hard to find a middle of the road.  It just seems like the middle of the road on this particular topic is a lot narrower.  I don't want to be a jerk, I just like bowling and posing different questions.  My wife tells me my curiousity gets me in too much trouble, so lol naturally I get curious about how many other people's curiousity gets them in trouble . .
