selling equipment - getting paid
« on: November 02, 2015, 10:43:22 AM »
I don't sell very much stuff out of state. But I can now if I want to. Here's the deal the person I am possibly selling to wants me to send the balls to him, then pay me via pay pal. What happens if I ship them, then don't get paid?  I said I will ship him the balls after i get the payment, his response, what if you don't ship the balls? What do I do? what would you suggest?

Uh, you're the seller.  Factor "risk" in.

What happens if I ship them, then don't get paid?

Then you lose.   :)

his response, what if you don't ship the balls? What do I do?

I fail to see how this is YOUR problem.  You know you'll ship once payment is rec'd......if he doesn't believe/trust you then he shouldn't purchase.

Never ship without payment. You'd be out the ball and money.

He sends money over PayPal. If he never receives the balls, he can dispute the transaction.

If you send the balls first, you have 0 protection.

Buyer always pays before I ship. Always.

NEVER send out product before getting paid. That is Seller101 in these deals. If he's uneasy, you can provide him with feedback from past transactions (if you've had them). If that isn't enough for him, then I guess he'll have to do business elsewhere. Brass tacks, again, never send out gear until you've been paid for it.

I totally agree.  NEVER NEVER ship the balls before payment.  The fact that he told you he would use Paypal, he should know he has dispute options with Paypal if you don't ship.
If you ship first, I feel you are going to not only lose your balls (for you jokesters out there....bowling balls), but the shipping costs also.
If he won't send the money first, walk away.

I have taken all of your advice. He has been emailed. Pay first or no deal.

Sadly, it may cause you to lose out on the deal (if he doesn't understand that that's the way business is done), but that would still be better than being ripped off if he failed to pay.

I don't know if I see it as "losing out" as much simply being smart.

I agree, it doesn't necessarily mean losing out. It just means you're being smarter with your money

To clarify, I just meant losing out from the standpoint of not making a deal when all is said and done.
