Possible or impossible???
« on: December 27, 2003, 01:33:08 AM »
Is it possible to throw a semi-roller with your hand at three o'clock when you release it???????? Because that will not with it a forward roll every time I move my hand any more than 4:00 and down to 3:00 I end up with a spinner axis. I was just wondering. If anyone can answer my question. please do!

BornToBowl,
More than possible, it is the way to do it. Semi-roller release is; clearing the thumb at 6 o'clock position in relation with the ball (thumb shows 12 o'clock), and rotating your fingers counter clockwise to 4 or 3 o'clock.
But crucial point is you have to be BEHIND and UNDER the ball when clearing your thumb. Also, during your finger rotation, try to stay under and inside the ball. If you roll the ball like spinner, means you must be topping the ball. Do NOT top it.
Finding a good coach is the best way. Because it is not a proper thing to advice without actually seeing your style. However here are some reasons to top the ball:
- twisting your wrist early before you clear your thumb.
- Opening your wrist and resulting to clear the thumb very early and rotating over.. In this case you will have no chance to stay under the ball.
- Wrist is ok, but clearing the thumb early and rotating over.. Again no chance to stay under the ball.

When you watch a semi-roller release you can easily see fingers rotating from under to the side of the ball. However feeling is a little bit different. Think like you are rotating your fingers to counter clockwise THROUGH THE BALL to the target. This helps to have a proper followthrough other than making "chicken wing".

Hope this helps..

You don't necessarily have to cup your wrist, just make sure it doesn't flop back.

Yep, I agree..
