serial numbers

I have an old black hammer that doesn't have any serial numbers anymore and a track voodoo that has about 4 numbers left (after only 2 resufacings!) I was wondering if it is totally illegal to use these balls or if it doesn't matter or what? It would be a shame to never use these balls again especially since I know they are perfectly legal!  PLEASE HELP!!!

you should maybe try to get the numbers reengraved.

i'm not totally sure if they are legit w/o a serial number, but i dont see why they shouldnt be ok.

as far as I know, if you don't have the serial number, the brand/name of the ball works.  i know that's what we used when i bowled jbt's a few years ago.

Serial #'s are a benefit for another reason...THEFT! My son's ball was recently stolen, and since the shop that drills keeps EVERY serial #, even just plug work/etc., on the computer, we may now have a lead to his ball via another shop that does the same.

I believe that 4 digits/numbers have to be visible for the ball to be legal.
If you were to take that ball to ABC nationals, I believe the logo AND serial number must be visible.
Double check with your local association - you don't want to be shooting honor scores with an "illegal" ball!

In the PBA, you have to have a serial number, even if you engrave it yourself. I am pretty sure the original number is not required.  I've seen a bowler with two balls that he engraved himself, like 0001 and 0002.
