Seven frames, seven leaves...
« on: February 03, 2010, 08:42:36 PM »
Here's what popped up Tuesday night, in sequence: 8-pin, 9-pin, 10-pin, 8-pin, 9-pin, 10-pin, 7-pin.

If there's an adjustment for that, I'd like to hear it.

Start 6 inches further back, move 1/4 board left with your feet, and 3/4 board right at the arrows.

Then drink a beer....or 4.

Then write a review of the ball telling everybody how bad it is.

Then go home and drill another ball.

The only true adjustment that should take place is more aiming solution.

Heh heh...I love this thread. Very entertaining stuff.

I just wanted to spread some humor, not get into a technical conversation, but since I was asked for it -- the ball that left all this was an AMF Heist solid. Pin through the middle, CG through ring (ball had 1 oz. top weight before drilling -- I could get away with it. I've heard this called a "barbell" drill pattern. The idea was to make the ball smooth downlane). Surface was box.

The last three weeks, the middle of the lanes have been the best play, basically swinging it out and bouncing it off the dry. I'd been the high 600s those three weeks, mostly throwing a Lane #1 BuzzBomb/R and occasionally a 900Global Break S-75.

But there were a lot of hooking spots and puddles this week and I couldn't play in, so I moved out -- which is more my preference anyway -- and went straight up between first and second arrow. I made an adjustment after each of those leaves (hand position, speed, starting position on the approach) but it was just one bad leave after the other. And yes, Harry, I actually managed to be pretty consistent to my mark. TripFour, I covered all but one of the spares (missed a 10-pin).

After the 7-pin leave, I put resin away for the rest of the night and finished up with a Visionary Slate Blue Gargoyle. Had a decent last game but only got into the 580s.

It was pretty funny to watch, because after the second 8-pin guys from the adjacent pairs would stop and watch me and bet on what I'd leave before I threw it. There are nights you carry the world and then there are nights like this, I guess.

I would suspect that it was a ball/layout issue. Carry is pretty easy if you have right match-up.....the right motion.

Sounds like this setup was not the right match-up to me and a ball like that with that layout would be very conditional to me.

2nd frame, a little high, 4-9 split
3rd frame, light hit 10 pin, messenger in front of 10
4th frame, high flush 7 pin
5th frame, stone 8 pin
6th frame, huge ringing 10 pin
7th frame, solid 9 pin
8th frame, STRIKE!!!!!!!!!!

Now, if you were good, you would be able to tell when you were going to leave a pin, and make an adjustment before you make the shot....
