Seven Pin

Don't know what's going on this year, but I have left more seven pins than I can ever remember.  Blower seven, flush seven, high flush seven.  (I am right handed)

I sometimes see the 5 pin fly in front of the 7 instead of taking it out, but I don't remember that happening with such frequency in years past.  And it seems I leave a stone 7 on flush pocket hits 2 or three times a night.  I understand and accept solid 9's, solid tens, light tens on pocket hits, but seven pins?

Anyone else seeing this?  Why would it be happening?

Have been seeing the same thing, leaving more sevens than tens this year, and see so many others doing it as well.

Are you sure you are hitting the pocket flush and not light? Do you leave more than your share of 7-10 splits as well?

What up DOcon...it's been a while.

As to the sevens, if you have noticed a pattern of the 5 going in front of the seven, the ball may be coming in behind the headpin and actually be still hooking as it enters the pocket.  Or you could be in the wrong zone (too deep) and the ball just isn't making the turn.

Regardless, I hope you're getting a break and getting the ten out somehow.

Its MILOOOOO!!!!!

Usually, when I get a blower 7 - 10 I am not really surprised.  I can see its light, would expect to blow the five into the 7, maybe leave a weak 10 in the process.  I haven't left an inordinate number of them this year. I HAVE left more 7s on light pockets.

What I am seeing more of, however, is flush or even high flush stone 7s.  I am playing generally up the boards a hair more outside (straight up 8), so the entry angle is a bit sharper.  Not leaving as many 10's, but geez.   Its AMF house, now run by Bowlmor.  Shot is mostly consistent from week to week.

Just strange, and very unpredictable when it happens.

Regardless, I hope you're getting a break and getting the ten out somehow. 

It just seems to be happening more frequently this year - light hits leaving 7 pins.  However, the real mystery is the stone flush hits that leave a solid 7.  The kind where you don't feel you have to look, so good did you throw the shot, then have to go back to pick up the 7.  Surprised by solid tens, nines or infrequently eights, on flush hits, but seven?

Maybe hitting too hard on the bottom. These days need to stroke it more than hit.  I get better carry that way.

Have similar issues at one house I bowl in because the blackeneds are a little fresh. When hooking the ball I've seen plenty of right handers kill the pocket and send the headpin off the side wall and come across in front of the 7 and go across the lane.

Too much entry angle.

Soft 7s on occasion as well as 7-10s.

I think that may be the answer - too much entry angle.  I am playing a bit farther outside this year, and the ball is coming off the spot hard.  I seem to get fewer 10s, but the stone 7s are more frequent.

Good possibility. If you look at a diagram of the pins and think about where the ball is coming in to send the headpin at that angle it helps visually. Sucks to have happen though.

I can say I've seen more than usual.  I have two 299s because of 7-pins this year. They both came in the same week!

Both were a little on the light side, but nothing out of the ordinary.

Smash 7 compilation video would be an interesting tool for analysis.  Surely some themes would emerge.
