Can someone take a quick look at this arsenal?
« on: May 04, 2008, 07:32:34 AM »
Hey guys, thanks for looking.. I need a little help figuring out how this arsenal may work. Here you go:

Heavy Oil: Roto-Grip Cell (drilled to roll once it hits the lane)
Medium Oil: AMF Code
Light/Medium Oil: AMF Orbit Xtreme
Spares: Lane #1 XXXL

*NOTE: Both AMF's will be drilled the same. Layout will be about 4 x 2.

Yes, I know they're all solid coverstock balls (other than the Code, which is solid/pearl blend), but a solid cover is what I feel most comfortable throwing. The Orbit and Code will be drilled the same to compliment eachother. They will basically be my 1-2 punch on my home conditions. LMK how this looks and where I might have a problem. Thanks!

(BTW, I threw a Roto Epic in there because I found one on eBay that i'm hoping stays cheap.)

Thanks, Ken! I may switch the Cell's spot with the Epic's spot, though. My Cell isn't really going to be all that strong I don't think. There was a thread about it in the Roto forum how I was drilling it, and I got bashed a bit lol. It's getting drilled CG on PAP, pin 45* towards the fingers, and MB far past my VAL. So it's basically rolling super smooth once it hits the lane. So.. Would it fit as the strongest ball in that arsenal?

Brian,

I actually do not know how that drilling would affect it, but you have the right pieces in the right slots. I think you should PM Mustang Guy (Roger) since he is Roto-Grip for the best opinion. However, for heavy oil I believe you do want a ball that will roll earlier and reads the midlane sooner.

Ken, that's what I thought. I know the best heavy oil ball is one that is super early and smooth, but I haven't used this layout in over a year. I'm unsure of how exactly it would react if I put it on the Cell, though. I took your advice and did PM Roger about this. I will see what he says, and post back.

It was pretty close, uptheboards. Lol.

I just took out the Epic because I didn't win it on eBay.. But, I did purchase a different, cheaper, and used ball from the forums here. I just picked up a Roto-Grip Oracle Vision. This ball has a particle pearl cover and looks to read the midlane faster. Where would I place this ball in the current arsenal I have above?

Thanks!

Drilled strong, with maybe a duller surface than the Code, the Oracle Vision should fit between the Code and the Cell/Epic slot.

I was thinking about drilling it RICO layout. That would probably be far overall stronger than the Code's layout. I will keep the surface dull, too. Any other suggestions or comments?

I would love to get a Break Solid, but right now, my NIB Cell is already in possession, so that's a no-go.

I would be careful not to drill the Cell too strong. You can be very disappointed if you drill it too strong. I would not go any stronger than pins over from the ring.
