Span question
« on: March 19, 2009, 07:13:44 AM »
What Would you change in a span to gain Axis rotation. Im more up the back of the ball, still can hook it when needed, but the ball reads sooner with this release.
My span
5 1/16 Thumb to Middle
5 3/16 Thumb to Ring
Thumb pitch is 7/16 Rev. x 0 left or right
Finger pitchs i think are 3/8 Left on middle 3/8 Right on ring.

This is probably more a tecnique issue than a grip spec. To gain axis rotation, simply turn your index finger towards the headpin and keep the thumb up.The more you turn the index finger to the left(assuming you're right handed)the more rotation of axis you will achieve.Notice the direction of the fingers relative to the lane as you do this.It will take practice, but a few degrees change in this "cocking" of your wrist can make a big difference in the direction of your roll. This is assuming your grip is somewhat correct to begin with.Dropping the ring finger relative to a normal span can help some.

pooh, are u taking axis tilt or axis rotation?  It sounds like tilt adjustments to me....???

Spitfire, you can still me "up the back" with more axis rotation.  PDW has around 90* of axis rotation and a 6" pap.  This means the ball is still rolling end over end, but sideways.

Now, if you want to change your axis tilt, follow poohs information.  "tipping the fingers" in will help you get to the "inside" of the ball, creating alittle more spin and less roll.
